Whats this all about?, I wish gay rights groups would just piss off. People being gay isn't a big deal anymore, it's accepted so stop shoving it in our faces.

Even in modern terms when you call someone gay your not refering to their sexuality but are just really saying their lame or uncool, it now no longer has nothing to do anyone's sexuality.

Agreed - the FA have far more to worry about than so-called homophobia ; trying to get a new CE for a start(nobody seems able to work with them) closely followed by trying to obtain the WC in 2018.

What the hell do this band of amateurs think they are playing at, trying to be Society's social conscience ?

Perhaps if they didn't have NuLab placemen like Lord Triesman in their ranks they would concentrate on improving English Football instead of being the reps of the Soft Left brigade - we are all sick & fed up with these issues ; most people accept Gays for what they are and allow them to get on with their lives as long as they don't insist on shoving their sexuality on others'faces...end of story.

Get real you bunch of amateurs....

I don't know where to start with that one. If being gay is so 'accepted', how come there aren't 2 or 3 openly gay footballers in every squad? I thought it was something like 1 in 10 people are gay.

Also, the bit about "calling someone gay just means they're lame or uncool" is totally ridiculous... where do you reckon that came from? The idea that gay people are totally acceptable and brilliant?

The FA would be far better spending their time looking at things like away fans being charged more than home fans for inferior seats & games at Plymouth being moved to a Monday night with little regard for travelling supporters.

They won't though as that rakes in the money & this will get them PC points & improve their image.

Aye right! More than likely they would be scared of getting dogs abuse by the fans in the stands for their sexuality. You could absolutely guarantee that everyone would give a shit if a footballer came out, they would use it as a weapon to beat the bloke with.

Yup. Nail on head Blef.

As for people whingeing about the FA doing this campaign instead of x, y, z more relevant action, they've had this on their agenda for the past 3 years and have been putting it off and putting it off as they basically don't feel that 'Football' is ready for it. The PFA asked all of the Premiership teams if they would volunteer one of their players to star in a club-centric video for the campaign, but obviously no-one stepped forward as they knew that they would be labelled as 'gay' by opposing fans just for being in the video, irrespective of their actual sexuality.

For those people questioning why this is needed at all, look at the sorry plight of Justin Fashanu - there's no evidence to suggest that 'Football' has moved on since then (see the Xisco thread title and related comments), why supporters of a team have any interest in the supposed sexuality of their players is a mystery to me, but it could suggest homophobic elements (alternatively, some people are trying to eye up a date..!)

And that sort of reaction is the problem.  No way is anything the FA do going to have any impact on this at all.

There doesn't 'need' to be, the fact is that many footballers will be gay and feel they have to hide who they are in order to live their lives. And that young gay people think that there's no place for them in sport.

The idea that 'no-one gives a shit' is also laughable - the attitude to homosexuality has improved in a recent years but homophobia is still a big issue... especially in areas like sport.
