Segun Oluwaniyi
why does portugal do so well in this competition? they take it very, very seriously it seems. Even in a nation like France, the Europa League is not prioritised. When the likes of Montpellier are putting out reserve sides, that nation has little interest in winning. It's the same in England as many other countries. Why exert so much effort to qualify, only to push it to the side? Credit to the Portuguese (and the Spaniards) for making this tourney worthwhile. Village Idiot
To be frank, the likes of Oporto and Benfica should have been proving themselves in the CL, not the EL. It's the top 2 Portuguese teams besting the second tier English/Italian/Spanish teams. Braga, though, that's a sensational run for them this year. midds
Any reason why they've moved the playoff final to the CoMS? To preserve the Wembley pitch for the CL final? FA Cup final + the play-off finals is more than enough.

If it was AFC v Luton it could easily exceed the CoMS capacity at Wembley whereas Whitley Bay will be playing there infront of 80,000 spare seats. The pitch has barely be played on for months and it's going to host 3 games in 3 days plus the FA Cup final plus the Champions League final within a few weeks. It'll be like the fucking Somme unless some of the games are played elsewhere.

No i know and I agree, just the problem with having pissed money away on Wembley and then after paying for it not having it as a dedicated football venue that it can't actually fulfil its role. Bingo. Should never have been built. Nearly a billion quid when the country already had several stadia capable of hosting big games. Criminal. That's another thread though.
