ITV commentators sound so bored watching this Villarreal match, it's pathetic. (Them, not the match)

ITV shouldn't be allowed near football, their commentary on the Man U game yesterday was v.poor too.

Just watching the highlights of the Braga vs Benfica game, and it's good to see the 'now we see more' eighth official standing utterly motionless staring at players appealing for the corner/goal kick.

All they seem to do is wait and echo decisions made by refs or assistants. Don't make any decisions themselves just relay information

why does portugal do so well in this competition?

Think it's because they're not good enough to go far in the Champions League, are better than the second tier sides in Italy, Spain, England, etc. and they take it more serious than the big European clubs who miss out on the Champions League or finish 3rd in the group.

Wish they'd get a wriggle on and merge the Spanish/Portuguese leagues.

It's the same issue that a merge between Scotland and England though. Do you put Porto at the bottom tier? Or do they start at the top and who do you kick out in their place?

they take it very, very seriously it seems. Even in a nation like France, the Europa League is not prioritised. When the likes of Montpellier are putting out reserve sides, that nation has little interest in winning. It's the same in England as many other countries. Why exert so much effort to qualify, only to push it to the side? Credit to the Portuguese (and the Spaniards) for making this tourney worthwhile.

To be frank, the likes of Oporto and Benfica should have been proving themselves in the CL, not the EL. It's the top 2 Portuguese teams besting the second tier English/Italian/Spanish teams. Braga, though, that's a sensational run for them this year.
