Tombides (already at West Ham) and Makarounas (probably Australia's brightest young prospect at this level) orchestrated a win for Australia against Ivory Coast. Finished 2 - 1 with the formentionedr players scoring for Australia. I really enjoy the fact most these kids play week in week out with each other and think it has improved our team immensely.

Ujah with another hattrick  today. Would be cheap and talented backup.

Make that four.

Any of the informed Scandinavians have opinions on Ujah, Nosa, and Chukwuma Bentley? I've heard a lot of decent things about the first two especially. Ujah should be cracking the SE soon if he continues at this rate.

Great potential in Ujah and Nosa. Ujah seems to be a terrific goalscorer and a constant threat in and around the box. Nosa is a powerful midfielder with a good engine who can turn games around. Also a decent goalscorer. Bentley isn`t especially rated in Norway nowadays. He`s not bad though, but definitely not good enough to be shipped out to PL.

 Hopefully, they can follow the footsteps of Obi and Obasi by moving to a top club. Norway seems to be a nice country for talented young players to go and develop.

You could easily see that pass from any league plenty of times a year from other skillfull players, it's not like he owns bragging rights for that type of pass and he should not be hailed for it.

Say it was a good pass, don't spam the forum because of it, that is all.

you don't see outside of the boot passes like that all the time mind, not weighted as well as that but yeah i agree

also should be factored in it was Albanian defenders

He seem to not do those kind fo things when it really counts for Argentina, then he just hides behind the strikers and never get blamed.

He needs to step up in the world cups etc. if he's gonna be one of the greats in my opinion

  jesus christ dude

Like two people commented on the pass.

Was a really nice pass tbf, no need to lose your rag because a couple of people were a bit hyperbolic in their praise of it.

Honestly haven't watched Argentina outside of the World Cup but to say he hid in the WC is absolute guff tbf. If anything he tried too hard to do too much by himself, essentially that team never had a chance with the way Maradona was managing it.

correct, and in his first world cup he was coming off an injury and barely used at all iirc - remember specifically the game they were knocked out screaming at the telly to shove him on 'cause this is where players like him make the difference

but nope, best place for messi was the bench apparently

A lot rides on this tourament for him in Argentina. Batista have made him, rightfully, the focal point of the team and has built the team around him to suit him. Messi at false 9 with the two outside in wingers either side (although personally I don't think Di Maria is good enough)in the Barça style more or less. They're main problem may come again from the behind. Aside from Zanetti their defence is suspect in all areas (pace, height, power, concentration) and they lack the real playmaker in the middle of the park that needs to supply the forward 3. While Banega is good he's no Xavi/Iniesta whereas Cambiasso and Masch arent really that type of plays either.

What's the craic with Pastore?

He's absolutely immense on FM, but honestly haven't seen the lad play. Seems highly rated young central midfielder, could he be the the guy that make them tick in the middle of the park?

Shame for them Riquelme isn't 10 years younger like.

That game was a shambles.

1-0 up and they take Riquelme, who was the focal point of the team, off to rest him for the next round. They then use their last substitution make a like for like switch with Crespo coming off for the vastly inferior Cruz.

So here we are, 1-0 up against the Germans with 10 minutes to go, no substitutions left and your two best players sitting on the sidelines... what could possibly go wrong?

Manger should have been shot.

Not too sure tbh, you'd think he'd be able to play as the attacking one of the 3 in the middle unless Batista is worried about him and Messi taking up too similar positions. Perhaps he is too much of an old school #10. Haven't seen enough of him to comment to fully but I think from what I've read he'll be first on if they need to change things.

watched him for couple of games last season...... he didn't particulary preform outstandingly..... but I could see flashes of brilliance there, definitley.

Let's see him do that, lets say against Germany (or such) in a world cup game that means something....

Didn't think so

So was it an easy pass that anyone could make or a pass that he only managed because he was against poor opposition?

FWIW, if Argentina had decent management throughout the World Cup they, and Messi, would have done a lot better. Maradona was a great player but is a joke of a manager.

Argentina would never have won the cup in South Africa regardless of who was manager their defence was accident waiting to happen. Although Maradona is rightful worshipped for his performance in '86 the way some people go on about it you'd think he was playing with a bunch of mackems for teammates or something. People seem to sweep under the carpet the contribution of some of his teammates such as Ruggeri, Valdano, Giusti and the likes. Not to mention Valdano upfront. That Argentine team were made of strong stuff which was the platform that allowed Maradona to shine like he did, not taking anything away from him?

Probably a question for a separate thread but Sacchi/Mourinho/Muñoz etc, they've never won a World Cup, are they great managers?

Mourinho will win a World Cup with Portugal at the end of his career.

how old is cronaldo?

that'll be the natural thing, couple more years at real with cronaldo and then build the team around him for 2014 or euro 2016 (too late for cron?)

if he has to wait for a shot til 2018 he's gonna need to hope there's some natural talent coming through
