Segun Oluwaniyi
The club should aiming to win every match and therefore the title. I don't care about financial position and all of that. The players should be going into matches with the idea that they are going to win and that winning is what is required of them. Going into the season aiming for less than the title is conceding that you will not win matches and no competitor should do this. There is a difference between what you aim for and what can be expected of you.

Guest elbee909
"aiming for the title " in most league years that would be silly comment, but this league is mental. It feels more wide open this year, everyon is beating everyone else. IF we are 5th or higher by dec 1st, then we should go for it....given couple of quality additions in jan. Weren't you saying we shouldn't be going mental about Mr. Average Hughton until we beat a top 4 side? And now we have, that's it, is it? Nuts. ohmelads
I can see Ben Arfa's future being not dissimilar to his past - a floating position within the team, put where he's needed when he's needed (replacing any one of Jonas (when more quality's needed), Ameobi (obvious enough), Barton (when more attacking directness is required) or Nolan (guy needs a rest, sometimes...)) and withdrawn when he sometimes isn't. Not sure how he'll like that... But if he's maturing, which is plausible, his overall qualities might improve and negate the others' advantages meaning he can play more (tracking back, consistency etc.), and/or he might buy into our musketeer routine and appreciate the team's success and what role he has in it, so it could work out. The club needed a striker and a winger and we got Ben Arfa. It was a smart move because Hughton didn't have the cash to bring in two players. In the little we saw of him, he loves to cut inside and I think he'd have more success there, playing off Carroll as a second striker. He can drift out wide and get crosses in or go through the middle, and has the pace to beat defenders to Carroll's flick ons and the shooting to stand back and win knock downs and have a shot. I think he'll be a good partner for Carroll and given the lack of talented forwards I think this was a big reason he was signed. It'll be a while before we find out though. sparkzter
Sooner we get this lad back on the pitch the more chance we will have of breaking down anti football teams. We seem to be unable to produce anything other than long balls up to the strikers when teams like Blackburn etc visit.
alpal78
The Satan De Jong not selected again for Netherland's match against Turkey, apparently because he has not shown remorse over his style of play. Bravo Van Marwijk Nigel de Jong has been left out of the Holland squad as punishment for not showing contrition for the challenge that left Newcastle's Hatem Ben Arfa with a double break to his leg. De Jong's refusal to accept he was to blame for Ben Arfa's injury, or that he needs to alter his style, has led to Bert van Marwijk, the Holland manager, announcing that the midfielder will play no part in their game against Turkey on 17 November. Van Marwijk dropped De Jong from the European Championship qualifiers against Sweden and Moldova last month because he felt the Manchester City player had committed a "wild and unnecessary offence" during the 2-1 defeat of Newcastle United. He spoke at the time of De Jong playing with a combative style where he "needlessly looks to push the limit" and he had hoped that the player would express regret when they next talked and, specifically, agree that he needs to curb his combative instincts. Instead De Jong told Van Marwijk during a meeting in Manchester yesterday that he feels he has been unfairly treated and has considered whether he could play for the team again under the current management. His belief is that Van Marwijk has used him to help deflect the criticism that was directed at the Dutch management for the team's abrasive style of play in the World Cup. Newcastle registered an official complaint with the Football Association over De Jong's challenge on Ben Arfa, but the midfielder believes it was wrong for the Dutch to take action against something that happened while he was playing for his club in England. His club have vigorously supported him in the face of vehement criticism, which the City manager, Roberto Mancini, believes has affected the player's form. De Jong's critics have cited the fact he broke the leg of the Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stuart Holden during a friendly international this year against the USA and was culpable of the now-infamous challenge in the World Cup final that saw him plant his studs into the chest of the Spanish player Xabi Alonso. JH
Pointless thing to do IMO. He'll eventually let De Jong back in. He knows it and De Jong knows it, and so it won't make him 'change' at all. Hell, it's not even really a punishment.

Anything that highlights what a cunt De Jong is, is a good thing IMO. At the very least its embarrassing for him to be continually left out by his own manager for something that I'm sure he'd rather people forgot. At best it lets the player know that if he does it again next time he might not get back in.
