Tubestationatmidnight
I don't know maybe forgetting how better this squad is than the rest of the league. That centre midfield has been a problem since cabaye left and has no creativity
Kanji
We've got this shit like. We've got a a manager who will easily make up with tactics and setup of the team that we may lack in talent in certain areas IMO
Tubestationatmidnight
True! Wasn't taking Rafa into account looking at that either
Mole_Toonfan
I don't know maybe forgetting how better this squad is than the rest of the league. That centre midfield has been a problem since cabaye left and has no creativity Considering the constant reports that Rafa wants a midfielder and striker I don't doubt that he knows this. I'm sure he'll rectify it before the transfer window is over if not before the season starts, feels great to have complete faith in the manager knowing exactly how to make us better. Elma
I don't know maybe forgetting how better this squad is than the rest of the league. That centre midfield has been a problem since cabaye left and has no creativity As the season gets closer I'm feeling slightly less confident of a repeat of the last championship season, although I still think we should be fine for one of the two automatic promotion spots. Am happy with the business done and trust Rafa implicitly. The loss of Townsend is the biggest thing for me as he would have destroyed that league and would have had the right attitude. Gini I'm not so worried about. Definitely think we should reinvest some of the money on a creative midfielder, a specialist left-back, and if Armstrong is getting loaned out then maybe another striker. Logic says that a side which finished unbeaten with 12 points from 6 games (premiership top six form) with 12 goals for and 4 against, against the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Spurs should have no trouble in this league. However, I guess I won't feel truly comfortable until we've started as we finished last season, and we've proved we can win away from home, against Championship opposition. Tiotes Witch Doctor
Another proven striker, winger and creative central midfielder would be perfect.

AyeDubbleYoo
LB and CM are my worries, although hopefully the lesser quality of the league will mean it's not so bad in reality.

Marmoset
We did get ripped off with Townsend looking back. Was probably a necessary part of the negotiations for the initial transfer but he's great value at the price he went for. Hope he bombs. Then lives a long and successful life elsewhere. Minhosa
As it stands, this is the side I think Rafa will opt for, not necessarily what I think is the strongest: Sels Janmaat Hanley Lascelles Gamez Ritchie Tiote Shelvey Perez Gayle Mitro On game one, I think he might start Aarons in place of Mitro from the above team and swap him and Perez. CM looks desperate.
TRon
Tiote and Shelvey in CM? No thanks. Think I'd go with Shelvey and de Jong. I think Gayle has to be in the team somewhere too. Perhaps as one of a forward 3. You are right about Gayle being in there somewhere, but you need to get past your blinkers regarding Tiote. At the moment he's the only midfield tackler we've got other than Anita who is really better suited to the full back role. Maybe Isaac Hayden will take that role, but I can't see who else will until we sign someone for that role.
bowlingcrofty
Except it's 442, a system which Rafa doesn't play.
Ronaldo
All of Tiote's best games for us have come against top sides. When we played him against Norwich - which was arguably the game that relegated us - he cost us the points by giving away a stupid free kick and the ball for another goal. In the Championship he'll literally just help the opposition get chances while not contributing to our forward play. He really needs to be sold to a daft Chinese outfit this summer because he's absolutely useless to our progression as a club.
TRon
That's funny, I seem to recall it was Steve Taylor's comical defending which cost us the game against Norwich and following that Rafa supposedly said it was his last game in a Newcastle shirt. Tiote started most of our games in our unbeaten run to the end of the season while Taylor has been quietly allowed to leave for a US paid vacation. Guest firetotheworks
Based purely on the players I think are in Rafa's thinking and not including players I expect to leave. Sels Janmaat Mbemba Lascelles Gamez Shelvey Anita Richie Perez Gayle Mitrovic

xLiaaamx
Is that what I think Rafa will pick or what I in all my FM wisdom would go for?
xLiaaamx
Anyway, as the squad is now (not going to try predict outgoings) Sels Janmaat Mbemba Lascelles Gamez Shelvey Hayden Ritchie Sissoko Ayoze Gayle Sissoko because while he's here I'd still use him. Practical Hayden was a tough one. Put either Saivet or Tiote there and I'll still be happy. Gayle because although I really like Mitrovic I think not having someone running in behind cost us big time last year. Janmaat's place could just as easily go to Anita
