From what little I've seen, I'm confident in saying that he is a greedy, petulant player who struggles with any sort of positional discipline. Really wouldn't have time for him. Sources close to Keane indicate that the Republic of Ireland star knows his number is up at White Hart Lane after just six Premier League appearances and that he would relish the opportunity to come to St James’ Park and form a potentially explosive partnership with top scorer Andy Carroll. Ironically, Keane was reportedly offered to United as bait earlier this month as they looked to prise away Carroll awau from Tyneside, but both the Geordie and his boss Alan Pardew – who says Spurs are “wasting their time” trying for the Gateshead lad – have made it clear there is no chance of him leaving Toon. The Chronicle revealed on August 27 that 30-year-old Keane was a target of former boss Chris Hughton, but United did not strike a deal with Spurs. However, Keane is hoping that interest will be followed up again next week when the transfer window reopens, even if his £6m price tag may put off several of the clubs targeting the Eire ace. Aston Villa, his former club Wolves and West Ham are all interested in Keane, but the 104-cap Ireland international is waiting to see what unfolds in the next four weeks. A source at White Hart Lane told the Chronicle: “Robbie knows that January is almost certainly likely to result in him leaving Spurs. “He was intrigued by the interest when he was linked with Newcastle last summer and is eagerly waiting to see what happens. “Robbie knows Newcastle is a super club and the thought of playing at a packed St James’ Park in front of 52,000 is appealing to him.” Keane has still managed to find the net three times this season, with two strikes for Ireland in the European Championship qualifiers and a goal against Arsenal in the Carling Cup for Spurs. Meanwhile, as the Chronicle reported last week, a permanent move for Hatem Ben Arfa is understood to be edging closer for United. Pardew made it clear he wanted to keep the French international talisman despite the horrific double leg break he suffered at Manchester City in October. If it was a loan I'd say yes. He's not a prospect they have to develop so there's no reason they can't just have him rotting on the bench. There's little love lost between us and Redknapp as well.
