Realistic Transfer Targets January 2011

f*** no to Vela.  Just not good enough.

He is not a good striker but definitely a decent forward, would be a very good partner for Carroll.

He's playing out of position at Arsenal - in fact he doesn't fit in any position there.

From what little I've seen, I'm confident in saying that he is a greedy, petulant player who  struggles with any sort of positional discipline.

Really wouldn't have time for him.

Robbie Keane 'come and get me' plea to Toon

Dec 30 2010 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

ROBBIE KEANE is hoping that Newcastle United come calling in the January transfer window to end his Tottenham Hotspur nightmare.

Sources close to Keane indicate that the Republic of Ireland star knows his number is up at White Hart Lane after just six Premier League appearances and that he would relish the opportunity to come to St James’ Park and form a potentially explosive partnership with top scorer Andy Carroll.

Ironically, Keane was reportedly offered to United as bait earlier this month as they looked to prise away Carroll awau from Tyneside, but both the Geordie and his boss Alan Pardew – who says Spurs are “wasting their time” trying for the Gateshead lad – have made it clear there is no chance of him leaving Toon.

The Chronicle revealed on August 27 that 30-year-old Keane was a target of former boss Chris Hughton, but United did not strike a deal with Spurs.

However, Keane is hoping that interest will be followed up again next week when the transfer window reopens, even if his £6m price tag may put off several of the clubs targeting the Eire ace.

Aston Villa, his former club Wolves and West Ham are all interested in Keane, but the 104-cap Ireland international is waiting to see what unfolds in the next four weeks.

A source at White Hart Lane told the Chronicle: “Robbie knows that January is almost certainly likely to result in him leaving Spurs.

“He was intrigued by the interest when he was linked with Newcastle last summer and is eagerly waiting to see what happens.

“Robbie knows Newcastle is a super club and the thought of playing at a packed St James’ Park in front of 52,000 is appealing to him.”

Keane has still managed to find the net three times this season, with two strikes for Ireland in the European Championship qualifiers and a goal against Arsenal in the Carling Cup for Spurs.

Meanwhile, as the Chronicle reported last week, a permanent move for Hatem Ben Arfa is understood to be edging closer for United.

Pardew made it clear he wanted to keep the French international talisman despite the horrific double leg break he suffered at Manchester City in October.

If it was a loan I'd say yes. If it was to buy I can't see it happening. Around £6m for a 30 year old doesn't fit the clubs recruitment profile.

They have no incentive to loan him out to us unless we were paying all of his wages and a handsome loan fee as well. He's not a prospect they have to develop so there's no reason they can't just have him rotting on the bench.

There's little love lost between us and Redknapp as well.

Whatever way we end up getting him he'd be pretty costly financially.

Redknapp's already said this week they are looking to get Keane out. Apparently he will take a pay cut in order to get a loan move according to the Mail:

Bloody typical. Every news organisation under the sun says 'HBA to Newcastle, he'll sign next week' and the Chronicle still sit on the fence

Even more surprising is the fact that it's wrote by the same people who write the Journal and the Sunday Sun who all think it's going to happen.
