JH
Fifa president Sepp Blatter has joked that gay fans travelling to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar should "refrain from any sexual activities". Source
Kaizero
Why are they saying "apparently joking"? He was serious, and now because of it FIFA have said they will not make any further comment about Blatter's remarks about homosexuality in Qatar. johnnypd
so looks like the world cup will be switched to january now that the fifa player's union backs the change. yep, qatar can easily hold this world cup, all they have to do is build a handful of cities from scratch in the desert, a dozen pre-fab stadiums, change half of their laws about women, gays, israelis, alcohol, freedom of the press and so on, break all of fifa's guidelines about hosts cities and their facilities, destroy the international football calender for a whole year or two, invent a currently fictitious air conditioning technology, import tens of thousands of slave labourers and it'll be fantastic. with so many hoops to jump through you have to wonder why fifa were so keen on qatar. maybe louise taylor knows why. Aye but 2022 is 11 years away, blatter and his wankspittles will either be dead or well gone by then but would have left us with a world cup in some random country, fucking everyones ifxtures up, just to accomodate a country that has medeival laws to begin with. Guest
To be fair though, imagine the uproar if someone passed out or God forbid, even worse due to the extreme temperatures in June or July? Every country has the right to host this and if it makes for a better spectacle by moving this to the winter then so be it. We'll have 12 years to come up with a work around for the domestic game, if it means starting the season in July 2021 and ending it in June 2012 with a 6-8 week gap for international preparation and the tournament for one season, then fair enough imo. Guest Tall Striker
Out of interest, which leagues would benefit from a January world cup? MLS?? SPL - Means we dont have to see it little our TVs. If we had a January WC, the training camps would start at the beginning of December and most players wouldn't return until February. We'd have players pulling out of league games so they dont get injured before the WC. Ridiculous predicament FIFA have got themselves into by giving the WC to a country about half the size of Jimmy Hills chin.

I have no issue with countries hosting it but for such a small country that has no football history and with its size, its never going to have a sustainable league at any point. Other countries bidding in 2022 were far better suited. Never mind.

The World Cup should be in June or July, that should be the end of it. If certain places are a health risk or a structural risk then tough and they shouldn't be chosen. FIFA are just trying to make two wrongs into a right.
