Without raising expectations in the short term - because I think that would be unfair - certainly in the next couple of years the target is a trophy. If one comes before that then we'll obviously grab it with both hands if the opportunity comes.

Looking at the permanent appointments only (or those that became permanent), their first PL games were:

KK: Spurs (h) lost 0-1

KD: Southampton (a) drew 2-2

RG: Aston Villa (a) lost 0-1

BR: Chelsea (a) lost 0-1

GS: Southampton (a) won 2-1

GR: Portsmouth (a) won 2-0

SA: Bolton (a) won 3-1

KK: Bolton (h) drew 0-0

CH: Manchester United (a) lost 0-3

So if you believe in omens, we could have another Souness, Allardyce or Roeder on our hands here, fingers crossed.

At the very least he seems to be fully aware of the situation and knows that he needs to just go about his job quietly instead of trying to be in the spotlight.

It will take a long, long time (probably never) for me to support him because of the circumstances of his appointment. But we'll see.

In all fairness to him, he took Ameobi off when it was clear he was doing f*** all, and took Nolan off after he had gassed out (and the game had passed him by for 40 minutes at least). Two things Hughton didn't seem very keen to do much of the time.

Barton.

What?

ESPN trying to make out Pardew had had impact on the club yet, he corrected them.

Ha, cheers.

The fact he replaced the injured Ameobi with another striker who could support the dominant Carrol and didn't just load the midfield is a positive sign.Hope he keeps making correct decisions. Also the fact he took off Nolan when his limited gastank gave up gives us hope.
