Alan Pardew

It's a strange situation because normally a new manager comes in when the previous one was doing particularly poorly. Changes in performances and results are easy to pick up. This wasn't really the case with Hughton so there are always going to be arguments about whether Hughton would have done any better or worse.

Indeed, it's unfair but it's going to be easier to pin bad things on him than good ones, in my view. All the same, you can only call things now as you see them.

If we're talking about Pardew's performances and not Ashley's, what Hughton would have done is as irrelevant as what Mourinho would've done - both better managers in my view but there's no point in mentioning either. We can just judge where the club was when Pardew took over, and judge what he's done with it subsequently. For me, things could have already become a hell of a lot worse and haven't - which I give him credit for - but haven't gone as well as they could, which I criticise him for.

No, it wasn't aimed at you - what you said wasn't that bad and I honestly can't remember the faces on here that have that attitude, so not going to hold it against you. Can't say I've seen anyone with the view you talk about, but fair enough, it would be wrong.

My main position is I will call his actions as I see them for better or for worse, couldn't take myself seriously if I didn't. In the short term things haven't been as bad as they could have been - I give him some credit for the big issues off the pitch (seemingly keeping most of the squad onside and not changing things for the sake of it), but definitely haven't liked his most obvious choices on it. Time will help tell what good things and what bad things he deserves praise and blame for in this period, though - e.g. whether he reverted to 4-4-2 because of injuries (good luck) or an intelligent free choice. If he starts making good choices more often, his old choices will look better too (I'll honestly hold my hands up we ever come to realise he's really good at improving the performances of young goalkeepers).

I do think he'll likely play a part in spoiling the good thing we had/have if he's given the chance i.e. squad attitude - by buying dickheads, by victimising people, or mouthing off and having us return to the backpages, and eventually the frontpages. While he may not kill it himself, I just don't think he could have created it himself, or can protect it on his own once it comes under serious attack. The question is how we've got until the serious assaults come, therefore.

For me, the Board are the biggest problem and will beat him to f***ing anything up - I've said before, even if Pardew's an angel they'll just screw him like they've screwed every other decent contributor this club's had. It's starting to seem fairly obvious the politics between him and them are under way, and it's part of the reason I think he's a desperate fool if he really did come here to try and become one of our great managers.

Fair enough  Can't argue with most of that, especially the last paragraph.

That's a very objective way of looking at things

The long and short of it is after 7 league games. Playing 4 matches against the current top 6, with injuries and suspensions and winning games against 'lesser' opposition  of whom we had no guarantee to beat. And those were the types of games which inevitably must have lead to Hughton's sacking. (Blackpool/Stoke/Wigan/Blackburn)

He has took us from 11th place to 7th place. In my eyes that is a good job.

Has done well so far - barring the FA Cup match we won the games we were expected to and could easily have gotten something against Citeh and more against the Mackems and Spurs

Though he still talks some shite - his comment after the game that "we had a lot of squad players in the team today", did we????? I think not

Won't come far with Ashley i the Casino playing away almost a million £ just for laughs instead of bringing money into the transfer window.

WTF? :kasper: he took NUFC money into the casino and wasted it?!

I won't make a proper judgment on Pardew until I see the type of players he signs in summer.

So far, you can't really say he's done anything drastically wrong apart from using Tiote at Stevenage and some other of his selections in that game. He is willing to make substitutions far more readily than Hughton did and results have been OK bearing in mind the loss of key players.

Not thinking about Hughton - he's gone, he did a decent job in difficult circumstances but we have to get on with it now.

Guthrie, Best, Williamson, Perch, Lovenkrands all featured. And I'm sure he considers Williamson a squad player, because he seems to like Saylor

Seems more keen than any of our past managers to send the kids out on loan which is good.

Thankfully its finally happening, god knows how many careers we've interrupted hanging on to kids not giving them game experience.

Also feel 100% more confidence in winning our home games under Pardew than Hughton. Still feel like he'll get no real money off Ashley any time soon though, and that was my hope for the change being made.

exactly the same, was weird having followed the toon 20 years to see a manager (Hughton) where i was more confident of getting results away than i was at home...even more confident than under KK or SBR

I am pleased with his abilities on the pitch

This transfer business and his comments are getting a bit tiresome. I suppose ill be in a better position to judge him next Tuesday

Very clever, if somewhat harsh :)

Tend to agree that a better judgement can be made on Tuesday. A failure to bring in anyone would be a black mark against him considering what he's said all month.

If he brings nothing in, who do you really think failed, because it ain't him.

I would be annoyed as he's spent all month telling us how confident he was of bringing new players in. Of course it's not him negotiating but it is him communicating with the fans and all month we've heard positive noises about incoming transfers.

I've slagged him a lot since he came here but if this happened I'd be inclined to think they bullshitted him. They have previous.
