Hughesy
Just for future reference - is 'parnsip' meant to be a witty, yet insulting name for Pardew? i don't know, call him whatever you want i just copied it off someone how about "alan lyingfacedyesman", any better for you? I reckon Pardew would work actually.

Hughesy
I imagine my life would be that much richer if I could think up little nicknames for people at NUFC. But then I'm not 8 years old, so I'll manage.

JH
What was so great and refreshing about his interview by the way? The more balanced opinion on the incident and Barton for a start. Rather than the "OH MY GOD! IT'S BARTON ATTACKING A VULNERABLE FRENCHMAN!!! HE MUST BE BANNED FOREVER!" that we saw from elsewhere in the media. Ketsbaia
Fair play to Pardew, he said the right things in those interviews. He uses his charm to convince us he isn't a puppet, but unfortunately we know the truth. I do sort of like him though, even if his substitutions yesterday were shocking. Wil
Regards Pardew's tactics yesterday, my guess is this season he always wanted to go with Ben Arfa behind a front man. After his injury, he gave Vuckic a try in that role but either didn't see enough, or is just not confident yet, to start him in the prem. So he binned the idea and went for a power game of Ba and Ameobi to try and unsettle Arsenal. Credit to him for changing it all at half time, and he must have been encouraged with Obertan's performance when he was behind the front man. Fully expect him to go with that v Mackems. Yorkie
Pardew got almost everything wrong yesterday. Worrying. What's with the suicidal attitude since FT yesterday, Otter? I don't really get it. Admittedly i didn't see the whole game, but it was a good result, yes?
Guest BooBoo
Sorry YG. I've been pretty disillusioned over the summer with NUFC. Yesterday gave me no real optimism either, I thought we were shockingly short of ideas and Pardew's much trumpted "change of style" was still two lads up front hoping to be hit with the ball. We were lucky that Arsenal were still on their holidays as a decent team would have humped us. On the bright side, I'll be watching football all season and wont see a worse game. I thought both sets of players should have issued apologies for the dross on show yesterday. Probably the dullest game I've seen since the mind numbing 0-0 v Derby in 1997 (ish). Guest
You say Arsenal were still on their hols which saved a hiding, how come that excuse can't be used for us?

Guest BooBoo
I'm pretty sure that Arsenal are better than what they showed yesterday. I'm not sure the same can be said about us.
Guest
I think it's safe so say Barton and Tiote are better than they showed yesterday and Cabaye will improve in fitness and statute as the weeks pass...as well as having an actual left back. Frazzle
We had a right footer playing at left back, two lads making debuts, a midfield which had never played together (and was split across three continents in pre-season) and a CB partnership that hasn't played together for an extended period of time for ages. We've still got new signings who haven't played yet, with more likely to come and still have Ben Arfa to come back. But you don't think we'll improve? The Prophet
Otter, I think what we saw yesterday was largely due to a crappy pre-season. We sold Enrique without a replacment, said to be coming in this week. This meant we were vulnarable at left back and Jonas has developed no understanding with said left back yet. It's the first time Tiote and Cabaye have played together in the middle of the park meanning they're no where near close to developing an understanding, hence both constantly dropping deep.. As well as this Ba looked completely short of match practice. This led to a dis-jointed display where we struggled to link up particularly well. I think we'll improve given time but it just goes to show how important game time is in pre-season.

What annoyed me was that one of the few positives of the pre season was Vuckic and he was nowhere to be seen.
