jdckelly
Forgive me for wanting something other than an owner who is using our football club solely as a marketing tool in Asia and one who is not using the time before the financial fair play rules come into effect to significantly invest in the club with capital improvements. He'd rather spend £50m in his local casino than put £5m into the club. to point out its highly unlikely anyone who buys the club off Ashley sooner or later will be doing out of the kindness of his or her heart but as a way to make money or promote whatever business they own

Sifu
Lads man, we can't have this Ashley argument again, it nearly drove me mental last time. Have to agree, the Ashley argument was done to death in the summer. Let's just all agree that he's still a cunt.

He'd rather spend £50m in his local casino than put £5m into the club. Yeah he's invested more than 300 million in something he plans to run into the ground. Also Asia? I forgot we'd signed Kim Jong Park last summer. Time for you to do some reading. “I was told that the man behind the deal was Mike Ashley and I sat with his representatives over three days thrashing out a deal. I was keen to know why they wanted the club and they were quite honest. They wanted to market their sports goods in the Far East and would use the club to help do this.” - Sir John Hall. Stu
on 5live now (will be on iPlayer later), promoting "sportsdirect.com" and chatting about Ashley, the club and expectations for this season "top 10 finish, maybe Euro qualification, a good cup run". Is fully aware of the club's financial position and sees no reason why that should stop us from achieving success. Says that he's revised the original season target and the players have "responded positively", now that we're out of the Carling Cup "one or two players can now go on loan". If SBR was the granddad we always wanted, Pards could well be the uncle you never had.

Baggio
How would people rate the first half of the season if we managed to pick up 30 points in the 19 games? Would you be happy that we would be halfway to a top 7 finish or would you see it as disappointing at only picking up 11 points from our next 10 games despite some tough fixtures? Although I'd be hoping for a little more than 11 in the next 10, 11 would still represent winning the games we should be winning, and if you had've offered me 30 points at the half-way mark pre-season I'd have well and truly taken it. quayside
No hatred for Pardew here, only praise. I don't agree with his selection policy but that's just my point of view, he appears to be the expert at man management and so long as the squad is happy and we're winning games I will bow to his superior knowledge. I also am thoroughly enjoying the fact that we have probably the most motivated manager in the league, as he's working his ass off to repay his gambling debts Am still a big Ashley hater though, guy is a billionaire that won't put money into the club, other than the money used to acquire it. You are welcome to hate Ashley by all means, but get your facts straight before you come out with stuff like that. He acquired the club for about £140 million and at the last count had put approx another £140 million in over and above the acquisition price. Go ahead and break that down in a manner that shows he is not responsible for every single extra penny he put in over the acquistion price. Why should I do as you demand? It's highly subjective as to how much of that cash he is responsible for but, more importantly, it has absolutely nothing to do with the point. It's like me now saying go ahead and explain how we would have got on without Ashley's cash and relying on bank borrowings to fund us. You made a statement that was bollox and I pointed it out and that is all...
