Well a quick check shows he was in my World Cup 2010 sticker book. Midfielder from Wolfsburg, 28 years old, very round head.

An agreement was finally reached between both parties

A week ago that, you announced an exclusive three English clubs coveted Karim Ziani, namely, Newcastle, Everton and Birmingham, but the track was the most serious of Newcastle, who was seeking a middle ground offensive, and the new coach of the club opted for Algerian international.

In our columns this week too, we had reported that negotiations would be undertaken between the leaders and the clan Ziani Newcastle during the week to negotiate the salary of the player and begin the last round of talks, the discussions with the club Wolfsburg about the transfer fee for the redemption of his contract because there are still two and half years contract for the midfield of the Greens before his contract expires.

Wolfsburg could drop to 2.8 million euros

Well, as agreed, discussions have indeed been undertaken before last Tuesday in England to discuss the modalities of the future of the Algerian contract with salary and length. To this end, we learned that an agreement was finally reached between the two parties in this sense since making some concessions on the amount of your monthly payments which are 300 000 with his current club and has the Algerian agreed to review a bit down, both sides managed to reach an agreement. And also over two and a half years under his current contract, a proposal was made Ziani for another year. What makes the darling of the Greens is expected to sign a contract for 3 years and half in all.

Now there remains only the last stage of this transfer since as already announced in our previous editions, Karim Ziani favors the trail of a permanent transfer and the loan would be for him a last resort.

So an appointment was made for tomorrow Friday between the clan and sporting director Ziani Wolfsburg to discuss the compensation of the transfer. But for Ziani, these negotiations should be a hindrance to the transfer, since on the list of those released, the German officials would like to get a little more money to pay 300,000 euros per month and that at least until the end of this season, which already represent a good windfall, ie nearly 2.5 million.

The player has made concessions on salary

Thus, it is understood that the indefiniteness transfer initially set at EUR 5 million by executives from Wolfsburg could almost halved to $ 2.8 million, which should pose no problem English club Newcastle, who is quite willing to pay that sum.

It is also clear that given the agreement reached between the English club and the player, Ziani should, hopefully, going to England later Sunday or on Monday to pass a medical and then sign his contract and begin training with his new team.

Lens only French club ready to make a proposal

On the other hand, we learned that RC Lens is the only French club to say they ready to make a formal proposal, namely a loan with an option to purchase this summer. But again, no concrete offer has been made all the more that leaders of the Sang et Or are looking for a striker striker than a midfielder.

Main jist of it is that he's agreed a deal with the club, a 3 and a half year contract, and that he's flying in for a medical in the next few days.

While we waited for the return of Algerian international Karim Ziani in France, and on the side of Monaco. It appears that the case is more complicated than that. According Competition, the Wolfsburg midfielder could eventually bounce in England in the jersey of Newcastle. The Algerian site announced an agreement between the player and the English club, with the key, a 3 and a half years, and a medical examination scheduled in the coming days. However, this information goes against what was said by the father of Karim Ziani Ziani Rabah DZ Foot: "Karim was approached by several teams who want to focus its services during this transfer window. I can not move anything at all, except that by Sunday, it will be fixed on his future club. He even announced that Monaco would be the hottest track: "AS Monaco track is the most serious yet, but nothing has been done. Karim prefers sporting challenge, without neglecting the financial side is important.

You'll have to bear with me, but I was reading an article on either soccernet or BBC Football this week, analysing why they were doing so poorly. Anyway, the relevant part is that Ziani was named as the leader of a player revolt against MacLaren's training methods.

I'm going to hunt for the article now, but the named jumped out at me (as being FM-tastic, many moons ago!)

Seen him when he's played against England but in a team like Algeria against a team like England, you're not going to really see him express himself. There was one moment at the World Cup in that awful 0-0 game where he cut inside of Johnson and smashed a shot just wide of the post from a difficult body position, good balance to stay on his feet after it.

McClaren finds life tough at Wolfsburg

Steve McClaren is still the boss at Wolfsburg and on Monday the former England manager was keen to show it to his players and an accompanying horde of spectators which included some of his most vociferous critics from the German media.

At the club's Marbella winter training retreat, McClaren led his players - including the apparently Manchester City-bound Edin Dzeko who might have been wishing his transfer had progressed a bit more quickly - on a 30-minute dawn run before breakfast.

This was a prelude to two further punishing training sessions later in the day, during which McClaren was reported to have reminded his players on several occasions: "This is not a holiday, we have lots to do, we are not here to have fun."

It has not been much fun for McClaren or anybody else involved with Wolfsburg this season.

The Wolves started the current campaign as a Bundesliga title contender in most people's eyes after spending about £35m - by coincidence, roughly the amount that City are expected to have to pay for Dzeko - on six players during the summer.

Wolfsburg also lured McClaren across the border from Dutch champions Twente Enschede, where he had resurrected his coaching reputation after his torrid time at the helm of England.

McClaren had a minimum target of getting the 2009 German champions back into Europe after they finished eighth last season and failed to qualify for the Europa League.

"McClaren is a far better coach than his England critics claim and, provided his German lessons go well, he should be able to achieve European qualification," predicted World Soccer magazine in its preview to the German season.

Spanish sports daily Marca went even further, forecasting: "Bayern should be champions again as coach Louis van Gaal has complacency as his enemy but Wolfsburg could battle them for the title."

However, it has not turned out that way.

After a disastrous November and December when Wolfsburg went eight games without a win - a streak which included six successive draws in the Bundesliga and an embarrassing German Cup defeat by Energie Cottbus of the Second Division - McClaren is under immense pressure to produce results.

Wolfsburg - a subsidiary of car manufacturer Volkswagen - have slid to 13th place in the Bundesliga, just three places and four points above from the relegation zone.

"The first half of the season was not good enough. I am disappointed, frustrated. We have problems in the dressing room, problems on the field. We have hit rock bottom," said McClaren after that Cottbus defeat.

Wolfsburg general manager Dieter Hoeness called McClaren into his office the day after the Cup loss for a three-hour crisis meeting and subsequently gave everyone, players and coaches included, a public dressing down on the club's website.

"We have got some cleaning up to do. We told the team eight weeks ago... that their basic attitude must change. We did not get a reaction so now we have got to react.

"The fans do not deserve to see what they are seeing on the pitch, particularly given the exemplary way in which they supported us against Cottbus.

"We expect the coaches to act consequentially and to punish bad behaviour both on and off the field," said the furious former German international striker, who played in the 1986 World Cup final.

The core of the problem has been a rebellion by some players, notably Algeria's World Cup midfielder Karim Ziani, to McClaren's coaching methods and tactical decisions.

Hoeness gave McClaren a stay of execution at their meeting, possibly because of the lack of viable alternatives, but Wolfsburg start the second half of the season with an unenviable schedule.

...

None story really.  The team went eight games without a win before the "revolt".

Much appreciated - couldn't find it myself...

I guess what made bells ring was the lack of "allegedley" and "we understand" - they are flat out saying Ziani is agitating aginst the coach.

Not saying it's a dealbreaker, just worth keeping in mind

First Larsson and now Ziani. Cleary we are looking at at RW which would mean Pardew is looking at Barton to play more central. Tioté-Barton looks brilliant. But I would like to keep Tioté, Barton and Nolan in the team and then Barton has to play wide.

It´s not easy to have too many good players. hope it turns out well.

I'm not so sure. Barton has had maybe a dozen games for us where he's been man of the match,  almost all this season and almost all when he's played wide right.
