Is Guthrie fit?

If Ireland is out, we need a RM. Ranger? Steven Taylor?  I'd love to see Tayls on the wing.

Play 3-5-2, Enrique and Simpson as wing backs?

Can't see past this tbh.

If Shola starts we'll probably spend 90 minutes hoofing the ball to him. We should run a sweep to see who is offside the most between him and Best.

Yeah but Shola got that mad offside goal against Everton a few seasons back. The one where he had time to stop, look across to the linesman, and then poke it in.

No Barton & Ireland could mae this a tough game.. weak squad being shown now.

Few crazy options

------Taylor-------Willi--------Colo

Simo--------------------------------Jose

-------------------Tiote

Think we should go for 5-3-2. Seems like the best formation with the currently squad. would also be great to use it a bit if we are going to be playing it next season if necessary.

Would probably go:

                Harper

Simpson  Willi  Colo  Enrique

Jonas  Nolan  Tiote  Ferguson

            Best  Shola

Can see it being:

                Harper

Simpson  Willi  Colo  Enrique

Loven  Nolan  Tiote  Jonas

            Best  Shola

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew dismisses reports of Joey Barton strike

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has moved to dismiss “whispers” that Joey Barton went on strike ahead of last weekend’s game against Bolton Wanderers after contract talks reached an impasse.

By Rob Stewart 11:00PM GMT 03 Mar 2011

Pardew spoke out to defend the midfielder who had to pull out of the Bolton game only 45 minutes before kick-off with a thigh injury. The manager is hoping he will be fit enough to face Everton at St James’ Park on Saturday.

“I saw a couple of whispers last week – not in the national media – that he didn’t want to play,” Pardew said. “It’s absolutely not true. He’s desperate to play tomorrow. Joey’s commitment to play for us. Don’t doubt that. He’s going to come in early and try and play through that injury.”

Barton’s current contract is not due to expire until the end of next season but Pardew has reiterated his desire to see the player remain on Tyneside after negotiations over a new deal broke down. “I don’t think the situation has changed in the last week,” Pardew said. “We’ll have to sit down with Joey and start again because we thought we were there but it hasn’t quite materialised. I’m not going to go into detail.”
