Could they sack him from the Under 21s but keep him in his role as Capello's assistant, or would they have to get a new Under 21 coach & assistant manager? Personally I think it should go to someone with a proven track record of dealing with the development of young players. That could mean dipping in to the lower leagues though and I doubt the F.A would do that. I don't think Pearce will be shown the door in the immediate future neither, but when he's finally told to do one, I can see Southgate getting the job unfortunately. No he's not as he didn't play in the qualifiers when he was under 21, or possibly 21 . Either way you can take any player eligible to play in the qualifiers to the tournament, since these started 2 years ago is why you see older players plying at this stage. The ex-England left-back - who has held the post of Under-21 coach for four years - is also favourite to coach the Great Britain football side at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
