Other clubs' transfers

You have to question the sanity of someone who would hand in a transfer request to join Sunderland.

Think he's scared about getting stuck at wolves and in the championship. No one else will pay what Sunderland are offering, basically this is his only option to escape the championship this year. Halfed wages as well for the privilege.

Not really, theyll probably pay him 70 000 a week and hell only have to score 10 goals in a season to become a legend there.

What i don't understand is why the investors investing on France... when the tax is insane plus the league rate wasn't the best... Quite obvious also other clubs beside PSG can't compete with that kind of investment... which makes in the end the league become one club show. That kind of league will not popular for global market. At least in premier league in England Titans Financial Club like City, Manyoo, Chelsea does exist which makes sense to make investment to compete with them.

PSG is probably the best club to invest in the whole of Europe as Paris has a large population (2nd most important European capital after London???) and is pretty much a one club city. Their exposure in France  and former French colonies around the world will be fantastic. They will also reach a big audience through the Champions League.

Largely agree with that.

Seem to remember Philipe Auclair saying that there isn't much of an interest in football within Paris and the people living in the Banlieue are too poor to attend matches regularly. Suppose that will change when PSG start getting success and it becomes trendy to follow them.

They get not too much less than full house anyway and gate receipts of 3-7,000 extra people won't make that much difference I'd have thought.

Unless they're planning a move to the Stade de France.

I don't think these people come into football to make money through the club itself so I don't think they'll be bothered by attendances, TV revenue or any other income stream. It's more to do with how to raise their profile, marketing, and who knows what else....

Sir Alex Ferguson remains hopeful of signing Robin van Persie but Manchester United are still struggling to make progress with Arsenal.

The Old Trafford boss in July confirmed he had made a bid for the Gunners striker, who does not want sign a new contract at Emirates Stadium.

United's rivals, Premier League champions Manchester City, and Juventus also want Van Persie but meeting Arsenal's asking price is proving difficult.

Ferguson is determined to get his man, having already missed out on Lucas Moura after the Brazilian's move to Paris Saint Germain was confirmed earlier on Wednesday.

But after watching his side lose a high-profile friendly on penalties to Barcelona in Gothenburg, Ferguson said about Van Persie: "I can't give you any more information.

"We have made a bid and they (Arsenal) have been trying to negotiate with other clubs. We just have to persevere.

"Hopefully it will come our way. We are trying our best but there is no progress at this moment in time.

"I do not have a gut feeling on it at the moment, I must admit. We are not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal.

"It is difficult to say why they are operating this way. I do not know what their thoughts are because they are not giving anything away."

Meanwhile, Ferguson thinks PSG's €45million (£35.5m) signing of teenager Moura is further evidence of the transfer market spiralling out of control and is interested to see how it works with UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules.

The Scot said: "I find it quite amazing that a club can pay €45million for a 19-year-old boy."

Ferguson continued: "To make a mark on everyone - to tell everyone that PSG are here - they have signed Thiago Silva from Milan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"They must have spent about £150m in the last month. As you know, the only deterrent to that is UEFA.

"In the conditions of European football, you don't qualify for Europe by winning the league or coming second - you only get in by invitation.

"That's where, hopefully, UEFA can have some power. When somebody's paying €45m for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game's gone mad."

I don't see why Man Utd want him at all. They need a defender and a defensive midfielder but nothing attacking. Nani, Kagawa, Valencia, Young, Giggs, Scholes, Cleverley, Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck are all good.

They have so much money that they have invested in a few places, I know in London that they built the Shard in London and also own Harrods.

I honestly think they dont, just Fergie trying to make the fans think that they can still compete with the mega rich money whores.

RVP makes no sense on so many levels, they need a fullback and a midfielder not a bloody striker.

I'm of the opposite opinion to you Kets and Cajun. I really think he'll be massively successful there and will back them for the league if he goes.

I honestly wouldn't bet against you at all, I just see him flopping there for some reason.
