jdckelly
People will think of anything to have a good moan. That clause potentially applies to every single footballer in the world, there's a whole lot more to it that someone just deciding they want to buy out their own contract. Exactly. If this clause was so straight forward, we would have seen a lot more top level footballers move by now. You would have expected a sports journalist to do more research rather than being so eager to come up with something. He's actually making his own point worse too by claiming Cabaye's wages are £60-£70k per week. As if. then roughly speaking thats 6-7m I'm sure he has that just lying around
LRD
@LaurensJuliens exactly. And no complications, some players have done it in the past, some wi in the future too. 'No complications'.

LRD
Should have done the same to Gomis last summer too. Inept DoF didn't catch on to the loophole! @LaurensJuliens exactly. And no complications, some players have done it in the past, some wi in the future too. 'No complications'. we got taken to court over Jonas! Practically every player who used that ruling got taken to court!
TaylorJ_01
Can't imagine Cabaye forking out £5,000,000+ for that. I'm assuming it's illegal for the club to then reimburse the player once he moves?
Klaus
Didnt Ben Arfa run away from Marseille, to force the club to loan him to us until a fee could be agreed.
Stuy_O
Seems odd to me why Laurens has even mentioned it, given it's so rare a player enforces it. His tweet basically warns us to sell him before losing out.
Dave
It's a right load of shite. Try this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matuzal%C3%A9m#Real_Zaragoza_and_breach_of_contract_saga Add Mike Ashley into the mix, and a player valued at £15m+. 'No complications' indeed. Disco
In the unlikely event that if PSG bid and they lowball us, I wonder if he'll strop off on strike again...
LRD
He'll just have to refuse any new contract, play on for another year before getting his move. There's no way we will miss out on a transfer fee with a year left by then.
Mole_Toonfan
Laurens is a shit stirrer, French Balague basically. This is of no surprise really, he did the same last summer or summer before i think it was with a Mvila to Arsenal story consistently repeating he's in for a medical today all summer which he got a lot of abuse over from Arsenal fans i know and ones i don't know I don't mind him when he's on BT but as far transfers are concerned he's as bad as all the other attention seeking journos. I'd think they'd just give him a massive 'signing on fee'.
Ste
There would be ways around it, a signing on fee would perhaps be too obvious, but compensating him with appearance fees or a higher wage could be a way to go. I don't think there's any worry of him buying out his contract or leaving in this window. Summer I think he'll go to the highest bidder with Champions League football. Wallace
If he has flown to Marseilles then I would assume it is to visit family as his wife is from the South of France. He went there at the end of August as well when he missed the internationals which co-incided with the arrival of their baby (and the rumours of a move to Monaco). Aye, and it fucking cost us about £10m I'd be surprised if their wasn't some sort of gentleman's agreement between ourselves and Cabaye that he can go after the World Cup. David Icke - Son of God
The Webster ruling is really no longer relevant. The last half a dozen cases that have went to CAS they've decided compensation on two factors - the market value of the player and the cost of a replacement. We turned down a £10-12m bid last summer, a strong indicator of market value, and he's off to the World Cup too. He's worth much more than the £6m he could allegedly buy his contract up. Is Cabaye so desperate to leave Newcastle that he's willing to take a huge financial and professional risk to rip up his contract not knowing that he's probably going to have to pay near double the £6m his contract is worth? I doubt it. It's not as if a buying club would legitimately be able to reimburse him either due to the "gentleman's agreement" between European clubs to stop this sort of thing becoming commonplace. It's in everyone's best interests to try and do a deal via the usual channels but especially Cabaye's. @LaurensJuliens exactly. And no complications, some players have done it in the past, some wi in the future too. 'No complications'. we got taken to court over Jonas! Aye, and it fucking cost us about £10m I'd be surprised if their wasn't some sort of gentleman's agreement between ourselves and Cabaye that he can go after the World Cup.
