Yohan Cabaye retires

The most worrying thing about the sale imo, is not necessarily the loss of the player or the message it sends out of us being a small thinking club. It's the obvious impact it will have on how well we play. He was a real key to how Pardew set us up to play, clearly Pardew is not a man with a plan B, because without Cabs in the team, the team more often than not struggled. Pardew now has to think of a way to permanently play without him, not sure he has that ability to change unfortunately.

It's what happens after the sale that makes people's opinion up. If we sold Cabaye and then for example straight away went and got Cabella/Grenier and another player in, I think people would accept it. Players move on for better clubs/bigger money, and clubs accept big offers all the time.

Spurs managed to turn the negative of Bale going into a positive of loads of exciting players arriving initially, although it remains to be seen whether it was effective. Certainly wasn't in the early stages.

indeed but I'd be most (pleasantly) surprised if anything other than De Jong got done before Friday

We still have to remember that Cabaye was perfectly entitled to buy out his contract in the summer for a quarter of the price if he wanted to go to PSG, so it is a good time to sell unfortunately.

Pardew's recent press quotes appear to point to that being the case, sadly. We might be able to unsettle a Frenchman in double-quick time, though.

With Ashley its always a good time to sell because it doesn't matter if the profit is 20p or £20 million it wont be reinvested into the first team, I fucking hate that man

Past record shows we will see something reinvested when we actually sell a player and have actually done it well! A chunk of £20m is better than a chunk of £5m.

Utter tosh ,we could have said to PSG "here you can have him at the end of the season on a pre contract agreement but he stays with us till then" .Yes he can buy himself out at the end of the season but that will put an end to that ,whilw we are on if Mata is worth 39 million i think we have sold him on the cheap in todays over inflated market .

I don't see what the problem is....yes we want good playes at the club, but we have to let them go at a time that allows us to continue having good players.

The opposite we have seen many a time where a player got signed for £17m and left for nothing after years of declining form.

Continued reinvestment is the way forward. Now is the time to sell Cabaye, but we must get what follows right either now or in the summer.

Not when the rest of the money goes to Ashley

Aye but the Webster ruling has happend like three times ever and the reason some s*** paper reported it was because Julien Laurens started some speculation on his own on Twitter, and came up with the idea himself. There's never been any real suggestion Cabaye was contemplating using that rule ffs.

Jonas Gutierrez.

Whatever Cabaye was as a player he was a cunt who went on strike at his current club, and when at Lille disclosed his release clause to us.

Had we again tried to keep him against his will he could have feasibly done this.

Haha you fuckin mug dont you realise that having Cabaye here for 4 more years and letting him leave for nowt is a better option than selling him now and giving the money to Ashley .......................for examples see Baines and Rooney

Aye which lead to a 2 year court case and compensation paid out way and above the original cost, you mug. That's why it never happens. It's not as easy as him just deciding he's offski.
