We could sit here and s*** ourselves at what we'll do when he leaves, or we can go out, spend some money where it's f***ing needed and finish in a European place, he signs the contract and it's all good.

You'd think it was f***ing rocket science, the way this club acts sometimes.

Honestly think we'd be flirting with relegation had it not been for Colo. Much of our impressive start was down to us being solid as fuck at the back, and if you take Colo out of that back 4, there's no way we'd have conceded so few. The man is top, top class, and we absolutely have to keep him.

Yup. Without him and Ba we would of conceded a lot more and scored a lot less. Arguably our two most important players this season.

Tieing down Coloccini to a new long term deal is equally as important as making new signings in the window. If I went on listing his attributes and what a fantastic footballer, captain and person he was I'd be here forever.

As previously stated I think it's far more likely he'll sign a new contract in the summer than any other time, mainly because Smith will be off the wage bill and we can afford to keep him, even on the bumper wages that he's on at the moment (and bloody well merits).

He's played in the CL no?

From what I could establish using Wiki and the UCL site he joined Depor just after their excellent 4 year run in the CL when they had the likes of Juan Carlos Valeron, Diego Tristan, Pablo Aimar, Albert Luque (debatable whether this is the same player who joined us ) and an ageing yet brilliant Mauro Silva.

During Colo's time there they played in the UEFA Cup.

There's just too many gaps to fill should he ever leave.

As a club it would be ludicrous to let go of the quality and assurity he brings to the back four. Saylor has come on leaps and bounds with Colo at his side and tbh Saylor needed that kind of player next to him to guide him.

Not too mention the role of captain, which imo he has handled superbly. Other than Ranger f*cking up wherever he appears, we have consistently kept ourselves in the news for all the right reasons. No doubt down to Colo and Pardew. The man exudes calm and it has rubbed off on the other players.

Would Krul have come on as well as he had if he did not have an assured Colo ahead of him?

Would we have gotten away with playing Raylor at left back if he did not have Colo at his side to guide him?

Our current position in the league has it's foundations in the competence and confidence of our defence; the battling qualities of Tiote, creativity of Cabaye and the hardworking wingers (Obertan as nuisance value); and the strikes of Ba and Co.

Remove the cog that is Colo and the entire system will unravel to the point where we are once again a group of individuals on the pitch instead of a close-knit group fighting for each other.

Aimar was at Valencia.

You quite right. Thanks for the correction. Saw the marauding, tough-tackling right back Manuel Pablo and in a moment of insanity confused him with the silky Pablo Aimar.  :idiot2:
