Wallace
It was said yesterday that they booked a bigger venue that normal for the press conference which raised the question why. I guess it was due to all the French media they were expecting.

AyeDubbleYoo
I have an idea for newspaper websites, why not just post a story saying Colo is set to stay, and then another one saying he's set to leave. Got all your bases covered then. Eh? Eh?
GM
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-fabricio-coloccini-is-set-to-stay-1553830? Makes for very interesting reading.... Pay up or play up: Fabricio Coloccini set to stay at Newcastle after £7m bombshell Meeting with lawyers and club officials leads to wantaway defender being told he'll have to buy himself out of the remainder of his contract to leave 24 Jan 2013 22:31 Fabricio Coloccini is poised to do a U-turn and commit to Newcastle for the rest of the season - after they warned the defender it would cost him £7million to quit. Magpies manager Alan Pardew has been holding delicate talks with captain and dressing-room leader Coloccini, who reaffirmed his desire to return to Argentina for family reasons in a meeting with lawyers and club officials on Monday. The 31-year-old was informed he would only be able to walk away from the Geordies if he buys out his own contract for around £7m. Alternatively, he would be pursued to the full extent of the law if goes on strike and refuses to play while trying to negotiate a move home to Argentina. The situation was softening later on Thursday, and while there are no guarantees, Pardew was working on a deal that would end the stand-off and refocus Coloccini on Newcastle's relegation fight. Coloccini was wanted by Buenos Aires side San Lorenzo, where his dad Osaldo works, but they could not afford the transfer fee and withdrew their interest on Wednesday. He trained as usual with his team-mates on Thursday and a push is on to make sure he is available for the Magpies' next game - a relegation six-pointer against Aston Villa next Tuesday. Whilst trying to provide as much support as possible to the defender, Newcastle have maintained a tough stance, adamant they will not write off a valuable financial asset and allow Coloccini to leave for free. If he should press the nuclear button and refuse to play to force a move, his £60k-a-week wages will be stopped and legal action sought. It could also wreck his international career, because he's been called into the Argentina squad to face Sweden in a friendly on February 6. Newcastle do feel sympathy for his personal troubles, but Coloccini only signed a new four-year deal last March, when the same issues were being dealt with. United are in a difficult legal position, with fans wanting information on whether the club's leader is prepared to play, or is engaged in a game of bluff ahead of the transfer deadline, but the situation will come to a head in the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, Newcastle continued their spending spree by unveiling striker Yoan Gouffran, who pledged to plug the goal gap left by Demba Ba's move to Chelsea. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-fabricio-coloccini-is-set-to-stay-1553830
AyeDubbleYoo
I kind of wish we could be more sympathetic to him, if his problems are genuine, but we simply can't afford it right now.
Guest
If that bit underlined is true then no, we shouldn't let him go.
madras
I kind of wish we could be more sympathetic to him, if his problems are genuine, but we simply can't afford it right now. if his problems are genuine, and i have no resaon to suspect they aren't, you'd think he'd even be asking for some time out or loan not a completly irreversable move and seemingly being complicite in setting deadlines. jdckelly
its that line that confuses me alright (not the threating to sue him bit if he goes awol thats what I expect out of dekka) what the hell has changed so much in less than a year that he can't see a way to stay? TRon
I kind of wish we could be more sympathetic to him, if his problems are genuine, but we simply can't afford it right now. I'm surprised we've been as sympathetic as we have tbh. As if we were ever going to let him just walk away after investing so much money in him. LFEE
For those doubting the rumours with regards to the tale of the Cramlington girl etc... Hickman was just on TS a few mins ago (thinking/guessing he's played his last game for the club for the record) and it was interesting that he said with regards to his personal problems that probably the whole of the North East know what they are...
