Dr Venkman
The Ravel Morrison signing looks a lot more sensible if we've got two good full backs like, our options are significantly increased with regards to formation.
stozo
http://www.foot01.com/equipe/lyon/cissokho-une-fausse-blessure-et-un-transfert-lundi-a-newcastle,82919 The absence of Aly Cissokho in the group that travels to Montpellier on Saturday surprised many, the defender of the official Olympique Lyonnais with muscle pain. Depending on progress, this package could be justified by the imminent departure of Cissokho. The regional newspaper says it will do in the next 72 hours the trip to Newcastle to undergo a medical examination. If it is positive, while Aly Cissokho could commit on Monday with the Magpies, who coveted for quite some time. No price has been raised so far, but we know that in this case Jean-Michel Aulas wanted to get a sum of around 10 th, even if now we talk now 9ME. A relatively respectable for a defender given the current status of the transfer market.
stozo
The fee according to that article is 9m Euros (£7.45m).
Ishmael
The end of Simpson? Can't see him signing his contract to be backup to Santon. No more right back chipping it down the line plays and no more deep, slow lofted crosses Oh and no more overzealous backing off opponents...
Taylor Swift
We must really like him if we're going to spend 7.5m on a LB. It's a damn positive sign anyway considering the fact that we know that Carr sees these guys many times before giving the ok.

KDT
Pretty slim chance of a centre back coming in now if we do get Cissokho, think they'll look at Simpson as cb cover

hoppaz
Well if this is true I can see Pardew pushing Santon out to the right once he's bedded in. Shame for Simpson, he should have accepted the reported new deal offered to him rather than thinking he's too good for it. He will probably be off to Villa now. Guest Roger Kint
Why the wait till Monday for a medical ? Wouldnt have made the QPR game and people will be occupied with that tomorrow so Monday is the easy option i guess. Surprising news tbh, if true you have to wonder whether they are going to take a huge risk with CB til the Summer, unless AC can play there as well? High Five o
Not sure if Giggs, but asked about him on twitter, received this from Frenchftweekly. Decent description of the lad. http://bit.ly/om4CxK Olympique Lyonnais are yet to make any major moves this summer regarding incoming transfers, with the main story surrounding the club being Claude Puel’s dismissal and subsequent replacement in the managerial hot-seat by Rémi Garde. However, Lyon could be set to lose several relatively big names this window with rumours surrounding several big names popping up as each week passes. Jérémy Toulalan has already left the club to join Spanish side Malaga but he may not be the only first-team player to leave the club. Lyon do have transfer targets in mind but Jean-Michel Aulas has pointed to the fact that the club may be looking for an overhaul of talent this summer with the club looking more towards a younger, fresher look for the coming season. “We have to sell. We have too many players and will not make any moves until the wage bill has been reduced.” Left back Aly Cissokho is one such player who could be on his way out of the club. Having been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs over the past few months, including Manchester City and Newcastle United, rumours have now circulated in the French media that he could be subject of a bid from Liverpool in a move which is sure to excite the player. Before joining Lyon, Aly Cissokho actually came very close to joining Italian giants AC Milan. After agreeing a fee for the player with Porto, his club at the time, Cissokho failed his initial medical and could not complete the transfer. Reports at the time suggested that the stringent medical facilities at Milan’s Milanello training ground found dental complications which potentially indicated a spinal problem. Lyon, undeterred by this, agreed a €15m fee and announced the signing of the left back on a five-year deal. Cissokho has also been capped for France after being involved in Laurent Blanc’s first squad as French manager. He qualifies for Senegal and there were rumours circulating that he would be called up by les Lions de la Teranga after being overlooked on a number of occasions by controversial French manager Raymond Domenech, even in spite of the high competition for the left back role in the French national team at the time. He has since made just one appearance for les Bleus. A drawback of being in the Premier League for Aly Cissokho would be defending. With him darting down the wing at any given time, a counter-attacking team in the Premier League, of which there are many, may use this against him and exploit the space he leaves behind. As well as this, he can be drawn into rash challenges due to the fact that his positional awareness is not always up-to-scratch. His crossing accuracy is also not what may be expected of a modern-day full back in the Premier League. Inconsistency may be to blame for a sub-standard season last year though Lyon, in general, did not have the best of campaigns. However, Aly Cissokho makes up for this in other areas. He is what clubs in the Premier League look for in their full backs these days in many regards. He has good pace and attacks the line with both pace and power, bursting into attack at any opportunity. This is something which has become ever-more present in the Premier League and something which clubs will be hoping he will take with him should he sign. He is very comfortable in overlapping with the winger in order to aid the offence and will have the ability to play to this strength in a league like the Premier League. Going forward, he can definitely add another dimension to an attack, which is something fans may be excited by. Cissokho is only 23 years old which means he still has a lot to give any given club. On top of this, he has experience playing in European competition, most notably the Champions League, with Lyon and Porto. The issue of agreeing a fee for the player may be subject to more ongoing rumours as the stories progress and develop as to his future with Lyon. Having payed €15m for the player just two years ago, Lyon will be looking to recuperate as much of this money as possible, whilst also bearing in mind that 20% of the sell-on fee will go to FC Porto. It may nevertheless depend on whether Lyon would rather keep the player or cash in to generate money for Rémi Garde to make his own personal mark on the side as manager. It may also be said that Cissokho’s heart has never really been at Lyon. The circumstances surrounding his transfer in initially selecting Milan before turning to Lyon following the medical complications point to this. Rumours have persisted in the transfer windows since his arrival at the club. Potential difficulties in agreeing a fee may mean that this transfer will not be settled quickly. Lyon will be looking for as much money as possible but may need to be realistic in their demands for the player. Manchester City were said to be interested but instead made Gaël Clichy their left-back of choice in this transfer window. A lot may also depend on the future of José Enrique at Newcastle United. Liverpool have been said to be interested in the Spanish left back, but could see Aly Cissokho as a different option. Should José Enrique leave for Liverpool, Newcastle United could see Cissokho as a replacement for the Valencia-born full back. Clubs in Italy had stated their interest but it seems that a move to the Premier League may be what the Frenchman opts for in the end. With the possibility that Lyon could be looking to sell in mind, it will be interesting to see just what the future holds for Aly Cissokho.
