Cabaye played well. He managed to compete at a good level. Taken off because he was feeling the effects of a very limited pre season.

Wasn't it Wearside who claimed Ben Arfa was "hauled off" at home to Stoke?

At this moment time, i can't see one area where we should fear them, arguably or weakest point where they can hurt us, is our full backs, but Larsson and Elmo are not the type of wingers that will take them on and knock the ball in.

What is your prediction for the game wearside?

3-1

Why are you so confident? What areas do you think you will dominate?

We are strong defensively(Richardson apart) and don't really see you getting too many chances and because we play 4-4-1-1 Sessegnon effectively becomes a extra midfielder when we don't have the ball and it's difficult to play against as Liverpool found out.

We have home advantage and the onus as the home team is for us to attack you and in Elmohamady, Larsson, Gardner, Sessegnon and Gyan we have genuine threats IMO.

I refer you to Liverpool away last Saturday, our goal came from a Elmohamady cross.

I would say we are more than strong enough to deal with the threats you have listed there.

Aye, what i am trying to say is he doesn't constantly do this, nor are him or Larsson the type of wingers to really worry fullbacks.

Simpson: NUFC french stars fired up for derby

by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

Aug 16 2011

DANNY SIMPSON has revealed Newcastle United’s French stars have been told in no uncertain terms that failure is not an option in Saturday’s derby clash with Sunderland.

The Toon right-back knows exactly how emotions run high on Tyneside and Wearside, having played for both clubs.

And with the Magpies certain to give Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Gabriel Obertan a taste of the action at the Stadium of Light, Simpson and his team-mates have underlined the importance of the high noon showdown against Steve Bruce’s side.

Simpson told the Chronicle: “We’ve told the new signings from day one what to expect in the derby, so they have been well briefed in advance.

“Sunderland is a huge game and it means everything to our fans. The new lads know that we’re going there to get something for them.

“They’ve seen how hard we have to work as a team and what the expectations are.

“They’ve got the quality, but they also have to work hard, and I’m sure they know what’s required of us in the derby.”

Just one game into their Newcastle careers, the Toon new boys witnessed an explosive affair against Arsenal, with United and the Gunners both charged by the FA for failing to control their players on Saturday night.

And while United will deny the charge, Simpson said: “I think a few have been introduced to the Premier League now!”

Simmo was one of the peacemakers following Joey Barton’s tangle with Gervinho, and was also near the act of simulation which sparked off the melee.

He said: “It happened so fast. I felt it wasn’t a penalty – I was right behind Cheick.

“Joey’s so passionate – he wants to win games, and I don’t think he’ll change.

“Like all of us, he was frustrated, and he let the lad know.

“It was a great performance from the lads – Arsenal are a quality team.”

Simpson also hopes to take that solidity into the Wear-Tyne derby clash, and added: “From day one of being here, the manager has wanted us to be solid at the back and not concede.

“He’s already shown us defensive stats from last season, and he wants us to improve again. He wants to keep us on our toes.

“We know we’ve got players in the team who can win us games.

“As long as we’re solid at the back, we’ve every chance to win games.

“Shola led the line and competed for everything. We just needed that bit of luck, but it didn’t come.

“Maybe last season, we might have lost the game.

“It was important we drew and kept a clean sheet if we weren’t going to win.”

The ex-Manchester United man also heaped praise on to the Toon Army after their part in the 0-0 draw – and added: “The crowd was magnificent. You hear this and that, and never know what to expect, but they were different class, and they do help us out.

“They got behind us all through the game.

“I was just glad we got the point and the clean sheet.

“It’s nice that they’re still backing the lads on the pitch, and still want us to do well.

“It was good for us that we could give something back – and we certainly want to give something back on Saturday.”
