Davide Santon (now retired)

How many times had Enrique trained with Liverpool before making his debut for them? If a player is vastly superior (which I f***ing hope Santon is compared to Taylor) and is fit, you play him, end of. Fair enough if there's not a big difference and you don't want to disrupt a team that's doing well, but that was not the case here, we all know Taylor is s***, a good couple of free kicks does not change that.

In fact, f*** it, if Santon wasn't ready for whatever reason, where was Ferguson? Much, much rather see him than Taylor at LB.

Enrique knows the league.  Santon doesn't.  Simple.

Well, he can't learn from sitting on the bench, can he?

Would rather he spent a week getting to grips with his new team first...

Like arguing with a brick wall at times here.

Good job Agüero read those Rothmans before his transfer.

Started from the bench mate.

Difference being he actually got to come onto the pitch.

I just don't understand. He's not been sat around his house for months and needs to regain initial fitness, he just needs to learn the team and and the English game. He's only going to fully manage that when he's playing full games for us. Why not stick him in and give him a chance? Especially when your next choice is Ryan Taylor ffs.

he will when he's had a bit of a chance to train with his new team. he'll start next week.

Against a turbo-shit opponent with no pressure on him, yeah?  Also, he's a forward.  Different balance of requirements, easier to drop into such situations...

A home debut against the worst team in the league, whereas Santon would have been up against SWP, who doesn't deserve 20% of the stick he gets.

Nor does Ryan Taylor when it comes to playing a decent game at left back. Santon would not have been worse than Taylor tonight, and even if he was, it would have been a first, needed, step towards him "learning the league"(which is such an overused cliché, btw).

So it's more logical to play someone who is and always has been completely shite, not to mention out of position, just because he's always played in England, rather than a young lad with bags of potential and who's already played at the highest level?

Fierce amount of shite being talked on here tonight like, proper baffling.

Erm, yes purely because of how little time Santon has been given to prepare for the game...

He's only played for Inter and in the Champions League man, can't expect him to be able to deal with QPR away (was it cold and wet btw? That would explain EVERYTHING).

Erm while i agree that Santon should have probably played tonight,  surely the bigger picture is that we kept a clean sheet without him and Santon got to watch the game close up from the bench to get an understanding of the English game.  He probably learnt quite a bit just watching and taking in the speed of the game.

Look, I could understand your reasoning if we actually had a left back to play instead, but we don't, it's him or shoehorning in a s*** out of position stand in and surely for that reason alone he absolutely has to play as soon as he can.

That would be fine if Raylor had properly fucked it up in the games he's played so far.  He hadn't really; is just really poor at it.

Santon in next week.  We can stop the bickering :)

It's been pure luck that he hasn't though, surely that's plain enough.

If he's owt like the last Italian youngster to come over from Inter he was probably on an iPad instead.  :D

Screw the 'we can stop bickering'

So because he hasn't officially given away a goal, and has only been fairly turboshit so far, he didn't deserve to be kicked out of the team? Feel like those free kicks have given him a massively free ride by some people so far this season, tbh.

Aye, and if we signed Messi I still would have prefered Obertan to start this match simply because he's lived in England more than a month.

Ryan Taylor was the right player if we wanted to play long ball football, which we did. What a shame we got pissed on in the football sense by a Neil Warnock side who basically just played all his new signings and hoped for the best...which he got because they were all better footballers than Ryan fucking Taylor.

That realisation just knocked me for six. Christ. Outplayed by a Neil Warnock side.

It's not actually. Ryan Taylor at left back is that fucking bad.

I ask again though, if Santon for some reason wasn't "ready" (maybe he's got diarrhea or something), where the fuck was Shane Ferguson?

How? He was thrown in far too early, hence being subbed at half-time of his debut. SWP was on fire tonight, was a throwback to how he was pre-Chelsea. Imagine what it would have done for his confidence, the fans kneejerk opinions of him, etc had that been him after just one training session in England?
