Davide Santon (now retired)

well pardew can drop him now - and taylor and shola. nowt to play for and we're unlikely to get relegated so grow some balls and try something different. I'd even a reserve team striker than shola.

I said earlier in this thread that his issue is a lack of urgency- both in attack and defence.

I'm not convinced he'll ever be suited to English football because of that.

Haidara on the other hand, while a lesser player, is far more dynamic and better suited. As we're playing for f*** all now, I'd give Haidara the rest of the season and move santon on in the summer.

He plays like a lazy winger. I've said before I hate his 'passive' style. He's the type if man to cruise through life without great effort or determination. I said against City he was the only one that didn't rise or seem heated after the disallowed goal.  'Tempo' or urgency - he has none. I've never seen him out in a tough tackle. I missed the game but I know what to expect of a Santon performance.

Those flat chipped crosses are embarrassing. He's not the only one who attempts them mind, they're a long standing theme of our game.

That was the worst aspect of our game today.

Dummett got beyond his man twice today and fizzed it across the area, one won a corner and the other a scramble which could have gone anywhere. That's what I would prefer to see more often than not; the fucking chipped back stick crosses should be summat like one in every eight or nine to mix it up a bit.

Krul should have dropped the soft little cunt.

Agreed. Second goal was entirely preventable if Santon had just used his fucking left foot instead of trying to put it on his right.

Was even more preventable if Steven Taylor had done his job properly.

Definitely. Was like watching Danny Simpson mk2.

Pure drivel. Might as well not have a def there. Never looked around to see who was behind him...Just jogging back as he usually does. I've never actually ever seen him run back at full pace. Loves himself and now to make things worse hanging around dead ball situations. Barely kick a ball straight. Haidara for me now - all the way.

Him and Krul squared up?

Yeah, Krul was fuming. Never seen him as mad as that before

Krul often bawls out his defenders. I wish he'd cut it out, and concentrate more on his own game, which has slipped a bit.

Personally think he's a very shakey full back who positionally is all over the place quite frequently. I think he can burst forward well but his end product is pretty limited.

Dont mind him, but doesnt look as good as we'd hoped he would be, although that could be the Pardew effect.

It's clear Gouffran's been making him look much more solid for a while by doing most of his defensive work for him.

This - nail on head absolutely. Santon is a poor defender and we would do well to sell him back to Italy if we can find a suitable buyer.

Him and Debuchy can't handle the pressure of big games and make silly mistakes, give away fouls etc... Santon's defending has always been mediocre and while some people say he makes up for that going forward he rare whips in a good cross and can't hit the target when he cuts inside. Dunno what he's good at. I said the other day that we really needed Grenier just to take our setpieces cos I don't think I can stand another one from Santon

What an absolute load of bollocks.

Debuchy was great against Spurs, Chelsea, Man Yoo, Liverpool, Arsenal and the recent narrow loss to Man City.

But aye he can't handle the pressure of big games because he's s*** in the derby.

Playing a better team in the League isn't as pressurising as a derby or playing a Cup game (especially against a lesser team) I'll let you know. Are we ever favourites to beat those teams you mentioned  ?

I just can't understand his jogging back when he's a defender...i just can't understand how he didn't fucking turn his head to see Adam Johnson behind him...and I can't FORGIVE him half ass'ng that goal line clearance/challenge on Johnson.

Example of heart/Commitment?: MYM chasing a seemingly MORE lost cause at Spurs and somehow fighting his way into that challenge and somehow getting to the ball first to clear it safely out.

I'm tired of this "he's young and will learn" crap with Santon. That 2nd goal effort on his part was shocking and a 100% droppable offense imo.

I think he's total shite, like. Not a clue what people see in him.

EDIT: Didn't mean for that to come across as 'point-scorey' as it sounded. He properly winds me up though cos, contrary to my above sentence, we have actually seen him demonstrate some good ability. But it's so fucking infrequently. He's ineffective 90% of the time imo.
