Wallace
There is still no excuse to not try to be the best you can within your means. We don't even do that. It seems that many in the media are starting to see how Ashley runs the club and are openly critical of it and sympathetic to supporters but can you imagine the furore if one of the media's favourite clubs was bought purely as an advertising vehicle for another company and none of the profit generated was re-invested in the club. He will get far more criticism for a similar approach to Rangers because of their importance to Scottish football. People ask why Newcastle fans perceive NUFC to be a "big" club but one that generates (and has the ability to generate more) the amount of revenue it does means that it should be striving to be in the top 7-8. The media always say a club's budget should dictate where they finish but we constantly fail to do that.
BlueStar
When he does go it will likely be either his physical health or his business health forcing his hand and leaving him in a vulnerable position. At the moment he hold the cards and doesn't need to sell, so anyone who shows an interest will be told to either stump up above market value or fuck off. If his other interests collapse or he suffers ill health and can't afford the time to run it, then he may be in a position where he has to accept a realistic or even aggressive offer. sixx
Makes you wonder if there is anything the football authorities (as toothless as they are) can do with regards to what Ashley is doing, because it's hardly 'sport' - it's not even entertainment, FFS. That's what really gets me. A football team and its owner should in principle have the same incentives as the fans. Those should be basic fundamentals but have somehow gotten skewed. How on earth can an owner get away with changing the name of a traditional club to 'Tigers' ffs or changing a team's colour from blue to red? Owners should be absolutely terrified of decisions like this. You have to wonder why it isn't in the best interest of Mike Ashley to provide entertaining football and/or strive for success. It's because PL clubs have become the play-things of very rich men, who act on a whim. The government should force through the german model, where no-one person has overall control. However, money and power talk.

It really is bringing the game into disrepute to primarily use a football club to promote an outside interest to the exclusion of everything else and to deliberately try and not compete. maze
I have a hard time envisioning things getting better for Newcastle. You have the sackpardew.com campaign which was probably the closest you'll ever get a protest that was actually noticed since that death threat against Mike Ashley. Not having the media on your side, like Liverpool supporters had with their previous owners, you're just not getting anywhere. I'm not say that those who run these protest should give up. But unless you get the national media on your side, along with those 50K+ supporters attending the home games, Ashley will just continue the way he wants.... Stifler
Mike Ashley death threat?! Another manufactured lie by the club. Pardew said the same about his family getting threatened when they were up here. He then admitted that they do not live up here nor have they ever visited. It's just a matter of time before Chernley's boyfriend has been threatened as well.

Big Geordie
Mike Ashley death threat?! Another manufactured lie by the club. Some heed the ball has probably considered it. Probably, but even Northumbria Police said at the time, they had no record of such a threat being made.

maze
Mike Ashley death threat?! Another manufactured lie by the club. Death threat or not that is not important. What's important is that something led Mike Ashley to put the club up for sale, publicly. Those who like conspiracy theories might say this was just a publicity from the club stunt to make the Geordie fans look fickle, and really backfire the "Cockney Mafia Out" campaign. Whatever has been gained from that has certainly been able to manifest itself.

Always some excuse for not bothering. Usual excuse is looking daft in front of other fans which is amusing.

From Tony Jimenez's bio: His strong relationships within the UAE - built up over the past 22 years - have been responsible for a number of leading Arab investors making significant investments in Europe. As Vice Chairman of Newcastle United Football Club, Tony was instrumental in negotiations to sell the club to the Dubai government. While the deal was not finalised due to the club owner changing his mind, Tony was nonetheless indispensable when it came to introducing potential buyers and leading negotiations. The club was for sale while Ashley was still getting his tits out in the stands with the away fans and going on pub crawls around Newcastle.

The people who make these decisions have no real contact or connection with the fans of the clubs they own. They are ruthless bastards who step on people to get where they are and seemed shocked when the supporters don't grovel to them the way their employees probably have to. All in that fucking fat slug's bank account, along with the wonga and merchandising money. Never to be see again. Net profit on transfers in the summer, also, despite this 'Newcastle spend big on nine new players bollocks'; if you seriously think the amounts paid for Riviere and Cabella were £6.5m and £12m then you need your head looked at.
