On Wednesday November 26, The Telegraph's North-East football reporter Luke Edwards contacted Uefa with specific questions regarding the situation should Newcastle and Rangers both qualify for Europe in the future with Ashley, who is Newcastle's owner and holds a 9% stake in Rangers, still involved at both clubs.

Uefa responded in writing in a statement which pointed us towards their regulations related to multi-ownership cases.

Boom there goes the only thing the club could pssoibly claim the Telegraph were lying about, seeing as everything else was completely factual as per the UEFA rules. After seven years under Ashley the club's PR department can sometimes still surprise me by their complete ineptitude.

I think the club means that no decision has actually been made with regards to Rangers and NUFC specifically. Which, although incredibly pedantic, is technically correct.

As tgarve said basically. No doubt The Telegraph relished the opportunity to take the most extreme possible angle on this.

Tough one for me, because I don't like the Telegraph any more than I like Mike Ashley.

Probably fatal for me to contribute here, but the Telegraph did state that UEFA had already come to a conclusion on Ashley's situation (which they hadn't) and then tried to say that being sent the regulations (which was all that happened) was the same thing as being sent a decision.

It's the sort of thing that most people and organisations in the public eye have to suffer in silence. The club should be doing the same, but it doesn't detract from the fact that the Telegraph have been a bit naughty.
