People's option to go with Wonga at the end of the day.

And?  People chose to do a lot of things for different reasons, it doesn't make it right and let's be honest nobody would make that choice unless they had to.

I don't like companies like Wonga, but they aren't doing anything illegal so there's not much I can do about it. Take it up with your MP, maybe that one who's got her knickers in a twist and see if you can get them outlawed if you feel strongly enough about it.

It could actually happen. Stella Creasy has been pursuing this for years .

What did people struggling with money do before payday loan companies came along?

if you mean peoples grandma and grandads, if they didnt have they money they didnt have it. as simple as that.

There's always been money lenders.

for houses yes. not for iphones and marlboro

if you saw some of the houses, you dont wipe your feet on the way in, you wipe them on the way out. they simply do not care about life. a 500 quid debt would be meaningless.

Some will be like that, I doubt most of them are.

it would be interesting, regardless of its bearing on NUFC to see a breakdown on timescale of repayments etc by wonga's borrowers.

Aye, not good when its like that. Mind you a fair few go because they cant wait to save up the money for a new phone or whatever new gadget takes their fancy, they get themselves into trouble by being plain stupid. My rules (not being skint this is easier to say) are i only buy if i have the money. I'm thankful i dont need help with bills, suppose i'm only a sack away from being in trouble though.

I have no doubt some people will go for these loans because they want a new phone or something along those lines and they deserve all they get in interest charges.  I have a massive problem with people who are trying to live off state benefits and are struggling to pay for essentials that most of can and will take for granted.

I just hope that none of us are in a position to have to find out what that’s like because I can’t get my head around how bad it must be.

Too right mate, I was brought up by a single mum in a council shitehole, never had a pot to piss in until i got a job, luckily there are jobs here (not a job hopper so i stay in mine).  I have never actually had a holiday, bought a house and had two kids in the last decade so it meant we couldn't afford it. I know how lucky i'am but to hear some moan they can only have one holiday a year, god i want to punch them in the windpipe.

Anyone who doesn't have to worry about bills is lucky (no doubt hard working also), and should appreciate it more imo.

Or they were exploited in other ways, by crooked landlords and employers who forced them to work long hours with little or no pay in dangerous working conditions.  Their fault for taking up the job or tennancy though.

I couldn't give you a figure but from what I've read they (Wonga) make claims that everybody else seems to disagree with.

My mum's catalogue was my friend when i was young.

got to admit, i enjoyed my mums catalogue (freemans and brian mills) when i was a young'un, she thought i was looking at the toys and stereos

Aye, i did flick to the frilly section quite a bit, ah days when you used to jizz absolute miles.

my dad was born and lived in a council house.

council houses were initially set up to help those who needed it the most. nowadays its just a system which is abused and exploited.

some of them are generation after generation of family who never have or intend to work.

You had to time it so you didn't hit the vinegar stroke too late.

Too late meant aircraft upholstered granny bras and corsets.
