David28
Just out of interest David, are you actually German or are you an Englishmen living in Germany? German living in Germany. From a footballing point of view, though, it's 100% England - club and country.
Guest Sophie S
Where do you get your emotional attachement to the English team from, then? I mean, when did it start? Did you live in England, are your parents English? Or did you just chose to support England one day? I said I can understand people backing France, because they feel ties to that team now that Benny and Cabaye are playing there. And I support Newcastle since I visited this city and a few matches (and fell in love with a Newcastle fan). So where do your ties and your attachement come from? I started supporting Newcastle around 11 years ago. Looking back, I don't really know the reasons anymore but, Shearer obviously played a great part in getting me on Toon-board. Don't regret it one bit. Being a bit 'the special one' here in Germany in the end suits me. With England, it was a bit different. Was after I visited England the first time some years back that I really sort of fell in love with the country and the passion everyone there seems to have for football. Added to that, the fact that I hate Bayern Munich for many, various reasons, makes supporting the German football team difficult, too. The last Bayern player I really like was Kahn. David28
More so at him hating Bayern yet liking Kahn of all people. I think almost everyone in my generation, playing football, had him as some kind of idol. Always giving 100%, never giving up and all that. Kahn had everything. Still like him as a TV pundit these days.

The College Dropout
Brazil, Argentina, Germany & Italy are your core teams who've always been there/thereabouts then the rest IMO. Holland too. They've only won a couple European Cups. But they must have been in atleast 6 semi-finals/finals.

Compare that with Argentina (4), Brazil (0), Italy (2) and Germany (2). If anyone is too join that list of 4 it'd be Spain having won both major tournaments and only missed 6 WCs, did miss a few Euros though back in the day. Read 'Brilliant Orange' last summer, its all explained in there. Dutch football was up the shitter during that time.
Village Idiot
Can't wait for tonight's game. We have never defeated France in an official game, so it's a big challenge. There's lots of rumors about massive changes on the side... dropping Alonso and putting Iniesta in the middle, playing Pedro... I reckon at the end it won't be as drastic as people are suggesting, and playing with Torres uptop. I fancy him against those France CBs. It's also a major festivity in Catalonia tonight, so the booze will roll in titanic proportions.

WC Finals - 3 WC Semi - 1 Euro Final 1 Euro Semi -4 In terms of Europe they're only behind Germany, Italy, France and not too far behind Spain. They are a long way ahead of the likes of England, Portugal and Denmark historically.

I believe Finals & Semi appearances should count for a lot more than simply turning up. Holland have been in the semi's/finals of major tournaments 9 times compared to Spain's 3. Spain would be slightly ahead of Holland because they've won the big things twice but still... generally as a football nation the Dutch have been superior. Spain have had 1 great side (one of the best ever) and one good one in their entire history. France have a greater football record than Spain by a long way too.
