Just seen that now, how is that not a red card? Just flattening someone off the ball is allowed now?

Ah yeah, it's a pen.

I thought they could have had one as well, at the Leazes when somebody stepped on the back of Diaz's leg (I think). I was worried about VAR for that.

Howay man, we were told a few seasons ago that fouls in the box are perfectly fine if the ball isn't that close in that Man City game around Christmas.

Remind me how late into added time Liverpool scored against us at Anfield, 9th minute of 6 mins??

I like to know how many games in a season have absolutely no additional time on the end. I'm guessing almost none.

He kept missing Salah nudging Lewis Hall when they were jostling for position. Normally I'd be okay with them as he's just stronger but Salah was looking at Hall and not the ball a few times, Hall was nudged off balance and gave the ball away. They were fouls that ended up leading to some pretty hairy moments.

Even less for ones that are in the balance.

FWIW he managed the game well except for the pen, the VVD barge and the end.

I realise those are quite important.

any one of them you could accept in a game, for and against you.

all 3 on one game is poor.

the game did flow well and I’d agree outside the big calls the officials managed the game well - damning with faint praise there I get.

He was also very quick to card Pope, so either Popes going full on fuck you, you bent ref at him or the refs realised he’s fucked up and reacted almost in defence

Not on any highlights but I thought Liverpool had potential pen too, someone stepped on the back of Diaz's foot?

Longstaff grappled him for a bit outside the area and then he hit the deck when he knew he was losing it. Would’ve been spectacularly harsh.

I thought (and still do having quickly seen a replay) that van dijk played the ball which is why no penalty was given. I assumed var checked it and concluded that. But if he doesn't play the ball then it's a clear foul and a howler that var didn't overrule.

Just seemed so ham-handed with everything in the 2nd half. Came out and spent 15 minutes giving them every single decision. Notable difference in attitude as well to the goal celebrations. Gordon scores to give us the lead and he's hurrying us up to kickoff again because come on lads, liverpool have a game to try and get back into here. They score to take the lead and he's stood there gawping at the celebration with a shit-eating grin across his face. Seems like a small thing but why the difference in attitude?

Also, that only one yellow card was given for dissent and that it was given to us after the way they carried on trying to intimidate him into giving a non-existant penalty was appalling.

Fucking commentator in the game for Isak pen literally said "if it's a mistake it's a mistake just leave it on refs call" wtf!!! Upson agreed with him as well, infuriatingly stupid, thought it was a blatant pen.

Might as well knock VAR on the head if it's not going to be utilised properly. The foul on Isak was blatant and obvious in real time. How they've looked at replays and not come to the conclusion it's a penalty or worthy of review is mental. And the kicker is this happens every week around the country.

It's lunch more palatable to have contentious decisions where the boundary is the pitch but the fact these things are locked at via replays with multiple angles and they still get it wrong is utterly incompetent verging on malice.

Said it in the match thread but VAR has essentially just conned people into accepting poor decisions by adding an extra layer to them.

People now discuss whether blatant fouls in the box are penalties or not, rather than if the referee and linesmen are shite/blind. Nobody with any seriousness can tell me Liverpool didn't foul us twice in the box.

"It's just VAR's 'high bar', if it was really, really, really a penalty they would have given it."

I swear there's more stonewall penalties waved away now than ever before as referees know they're no longer raked over the coals, they're happy to let VAR take the rap.

Couldn't agree more Hans, they've managed to set it up in a way whereby it's worst having it than not. It's a speculator achievement to honest.

I didn't see the whole game, but Gomez on Isak wasn't a penalty for me, looked like Gomez got a touch on the ball.

The end was a farce, BUT Livramento took 40 secs to take a throw in before that, I don't really like to moan about that.

On the whole ref was good. Gave yellows even early on, Gordon had 1 dive, but otherwise he was kicked to bits again.

"Not available in your location"

Maybe there was, looked like a slight touch. If not, then clear penalty. I would say Virgil barging off the ball is bigger problem. Second time he did in a week
