Think there must have been about 8 handballs missed in the game

Aye, every time their keeper was kicking out his hands he was carrying the ball out the box!

Happens all the time, but never gets pulled up

He did it 3 times in the first half, each time after holding the ball for 10-15 seconds too

Sort of linked to this, but annoys me the way Burn gets involved with pushing and shoving before a corner is taken. I know he's trying to create a yard of space but just feel like we could win a few easy penalties a season if he just lets the defender crack on with manhandling him.

He does initiate it as well, mind. He always slaps defenders hands away and is adamant he will just go with the hand off/stiff arm to keep them away from him.

I’m not sure that’s allowed TBH. Seems unfair and all. As his arms are probably about 5 foot long

Thought the ref had a poor game and I'm not detracting from that.

But I'm still dumbfounded by how football continues to allow players (and coaching staff sometimes) to surround refs, scream things at them, wag fingers, and other cynical/nasty things. In rugby, it's not tolerated, there's actual consequences for it, so it doesn't happen. That's respect. Football could stamp it out in 5 minutes if it wanted, but my theory is that the powers that be view the players as their hallowed cash cows and don't want to upset them, even if it's clearly for the good of the game.

It grates me virtually every game I watch. Don't let the players behave like morons. Book them for surrounding the ref for example, even if you book half the team at once, and I bet they'll stop it pretty quick. It's not rocket science.

There are obviously many other issues affecting refereeing standards, but could we actually try treating them as human beings? Might help them be better.

Still laughing at the 1 minute added time yesterday. 2 long VAR checks, a red card, a substiute, Ipswich keeper and defence taking ages on every goal kick (with the ref even telling them to hurry up)

Getting a penalty at the end of the half meant the added time was brushed over but what an absolute clusterfuck

Exactly, mate. It was infuriating.

I went to see Southend United v Solihull Borough a couple of weeks back, and every time the Solihull keeper had the ball he took ages.

The Southend fans started a counting chant (which was hilarious for some reason) and got to 18 as the longest count. The rest were around 14/15, and the ref did nowt.

Refs are just ignoring the GK's holding the ball again, just implement the laws ffs.

Probably the most incompetent performance I’ve ever seen from the fourth official or whoever’s in charge of extra time

I used to think this as well, but despite trialing it a while ago the moving a free kick forwards 20 yards isn’t always an advantage in football.

Think a lot of it still stems from the FA and PGMOL (or whatever it was called at the time) seemingly being terrified of Ferguson and then the managers of the other "Legacy big 6” clubs knowing their value to "the product" and using that leverage accordingly.

Wasn’t there yesterday but I watched it on the USA Network stream. Along with the snideness from Enciso, who should have been sent off, and the Primark Ryan Yates that was Morsi, my biggest gripe was how far Palmer was carrying kicks from hand outside the box. At one point he was past the ‘D’ in his motion and still hadn’t released. Should have been a yellow and a free kick for us but yet another blind eye turned.

There definitely seems to be a fear element among match officials, even at lower levels. But if the refs, and the FA etc, had the balls to boldly and consistently implement certain laws, the players would soon cotton on and come into line imo.

That can't be right,  he was past the D without releasing the ball from his hands?

In the worst case. Couple of others he was comfortably out of his box when he launched it. Linesman is obviously up with the last defender, so a way up the field and not in line, but was driving me mad!

It was so fucking egregious too. What’s the point of linesmen if they’re not pulling that basic stuff up?

I didn't notice it from my position but he was definitely taking ages to release it

Interesting to see how enforced the new rule change will be from next season
