Guest gggg
http://u.goal.com/106900/106930hp2.jpg The world of football is again in mourning after it was announced on Sunday that Socrates had passed away after suffering complications in his bid to recover from an intestinal problem. The former Brazil international was rushed to hospital in Sao Paulo on Thursday night and was immediately placed in intensive care. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Socrates suffered a septic shock in the early hours of Sunday morning and the 57-year-old died at 04:30 Brazilian time. Socrates had already been submitted to hospital with gastrointestinal haemorrhages twice previously since August and recently admitted that his problems had been related to alcochol abuse. A classy midfielder with an eye for a goal, Socrates played for Botafogo, Corinthians, Fiorentina, Flamengo and Santos during a stellar career which also saw him capped 60 times by Brazil. Indeed, he was one of the most revered players in Brazil's much-lauded 1982 World Cup squad.

JH
Don't know a lot about him (didn't really watch much football before I was born) but from the little I've heard/seen, he was a brilliant footballer. RIP
Guest gggg
One of the coolest names ever. One of the coolest players full stop, infact all the 82 Brazil team looked cool. I watched all of their games from that world cup recently and can see why the midfield of Eder, Falcao, Socrates, Zico are held up as one of the best of all time, but not the team as a whole. The keeper was horrendous, the defence was a mess and gifted Rossi the second and failed to mark him for the other two, and Serginho has to be the worst Brazil number 9 of all time. He had the ball control of a sunday league player and his only contributions were to get in the way of the world class players around him and balloon shots anywhere but goal. Italy were a better all round team with a good keeper and defence, their last great winger Conti, a quality playmaker in Antognoni and Rossi in the form of his life, they deserved to win. Flip
Member of the best footballing national side we'll ever see, that 82' team was something out of the world when it came down to technique and pure brilliance. Had they been a bit smarter Brazil would've been crowned champions in 82'. Always debatable whether Brazil 70' wasn't better. True legend at Corinthians and I hope we win the title today in a way of honouring him. RIP

Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Remember on another football forum we were putting together our All-Time Football XI (using a draft format). Had him in the middle. Amazing player and never seemed to stop loving football.
