The other games today - 2011/12

Recommended Posts

They really don't have the squad for a two-front battle.

Yh, its a shame but its true but two cup finals ( one domestic and one european) would make for a amazing season regardless of League standings.......

Bilbao fans are probably ecstatic.

They are loving it, indeed.

Athletic Club have never quite done it in Europe so they don't have the reputation of a Valencia or Atlético despite having a bigger domestic trophy haul. So this campaign, if they get all the way, it's a bit of a vindication.

Just watched the Schalke-Bilbao game. Enjoyed it. Was hoping for the Bilbao of previous games but they did start to play some good stuff near the end. Fucking hell though, 4-2 flattered them.

That Greek defender looks a good prospect. Impressed by Iraola as always too.

2nd leg should be a good 'un!

Semi would be against Metalist or Sporting so you've got to fancy them for the final.

Sporting have looked decent but not much more. Would without doubt fancy Bilbao over them.

Atletico and Hannover was horrible. Entertaining in some ways, but the quality of football was horrible IMO. Feel quite proud of the Premiership after watching that.

Hannover are very hard to beat and have some intelligent players in Schlaudraff, Pinto and Abdellaoue. One of the more underappreciated teams in Europe IMO, doing very well with scant means. I still fancy them to go through.

Would have thought that Bilbao is 'Newcastle Online's side' after the fawning over them .

Our lot fawn over them, too.

Having said that, our trip to play them was possibly the most fun I have ever had before, during and after a football match. Great people.

When they weren't time wasting, and had a go (which was brief) they were quite impressive. Especially their wide play. Really neat and precise at delivering balls between the last defender and the keeper. Atletico had no clue how to defend against it. Defensively Hannover were a mess though. Atletico had such incredibly bad decision-making going forward, trying to run through the centre of the park time and time again without learning a thing - with acres of space out wide. As the match wore on, they just started stepping on ankles and generally losing their cool, leaving a foot in going through players - which suited Hannover fine, who had been time-wasting since half-time.

I find Stoke difficult to watch at times, for example, but with a few-Suarez shaped exceptions, the Premiership isn't that bad.

Edit: Agree, Hannover have a really good chance.

Athletic Club fans unveiled a giant banner = "1 Ticket 90€. 90 minutes = 1€ per minute. Football isn't phone sex."

Looks like it was the Schalke fans, would make more sense since they pay €15 to stand and what not.

Perfect Spanish that, but there's a lot of Spanish immigrants in Germany (hello Mario Gómez).

90€ is daylight robbery, but we gotta balance that account deficit somehow.

Aye, at least with Atheltic they'll pay the taxman, unlike some...
