Papiss Cissé

Was going to post that myself. GOS is easily the best footy programme on the telly, i trusted them to get it right.

Bet MOTD give it to Crouch or Suarez.

PAPISS CISSE has issued an apology to the Toon Army after Newcastle United failed to achieve their season “objective” on the final day of the season.

But after talk Cisse had made a “come and get me” plea to Real Madrid last week, the Senegal ace insisted he is only focused on a career at St James’ Park.

The United number 9 revealed that he and his team-mates were desperate to gatecrash the Champions League party next term, but they fell just short after missing out on the top four by four points after losing three of their last four games meaning they will now play in the Europa League.

Cisse – who grabbed 13 goals after arriving in January from Freiburg – told the Chronicle: “It’s good to be in Europe next season, but I’m sorry for the supporters, we wanted to give them Champions League football.

“That was our objective. We are in the Europa League, and I thank God for the season I have had. But we are still a little disappointed.”

Cisse was cruelly denied a goal in the second half when Tim Howard clawed away his goal-bound header. He reflected: “It was a difficult game.

“We wanted to beat Everton, and finish as high as we could, and we’re disappointed to lose.

“It was one of those days. I had a chance early in the second half, but I didn’t score, and now the season is finished.”

United rubbished talk Cisse made a plea to sign for Real Madrid last week.

Discussing the matter for the first time, Cisse told United supporters: “I hope to continue scoring goals for Newcastle next season. I’m looking forward to playing in the Europa League.

“We wanted to play in the Champions League, but we can be very happy with what we have achieved this season.”

Don't know if everyone had just turned off MOTD before the end or not but the 2nd against Chelsea was selected as Goal of the Season on there as well.

That'll be those hilarious Stoke fans, it was definitely Cisse, Hansen and Shearer were unanimous.

  • 2 weeks later...

Took 25 years since 1970 for a player based outside UK+Ireland to win Goal of the Season, wow.

What the hell won it the season Yeboah scored those two goals?

Oh aye.

But that's not really a surprising stat considering it wasn't really until the early 90s when we got this influx of foreign players.
