Think this is less to do with Wonga and more with Cisse engineering a move to get away from the god-awful service he gets under Pardews instructions. Maybe? :undecided:

And furthermore, if that is even an iota true, it is enough to make you weep as we have so many players suited to playing a different way and making Cisse a happy bunny.

Maybe, but the he offered to play in an shirt without the Wonga badge or with a charity logo instead. As far as I'm concerned that's put the onus back on the club and fucking Wonga.

How is Cisse being hypocritical? Who is he lending money to?

Because he quite happily wore a shirt with virging money on, while playing in the barclays premier league. They're both money lenders who chatge interest.

What Cisse is effectively saying is that Sharia law is ok with interest rates of less than 50%. Which is absolute bollocks.

It isn't.

The definition of usury differs depending on where you are in the Muslim world. Some consider any interest at all to be usury but many believe that only excessive interest is usury.

I am still massively disappointed that the club have stooped so low as to have Wonga as our sponsor. I won't be buying any merchandise with the logo as I do not agree with pay day loan companies.

If he has cited something on religious grounds, then I hope the club handle it delicately. But can you see that happen when Kinnear is likely to be involved in discussions? There is a solution here, it just depends on how much the club value Cisse or if they see a chance to get his transfer fee back and get someone cheaper in.

That to me is the difference.

If people are moaning on about Barclays etc being worse than than Wonga then they are having ago at the whole of anglo-american style of capitalism, not the situation we have here.

Exactly. Interest based loans can be a real help for people to start businesses or buy a home. On the other hand the Sopranos version of interest where you pay the money at 100% by next week or get your legs broken is a different kettle of fish.

Spot on.

The reason they don't allow interest is because of the way it could be changed in a purchase of an financial product to create excess profit.  Of course Islamic financial institutes make profit from their own versions of mortgages etc, but the profit they make is set in stone.  Remember interest rates on a mortgage have gone up to ridiculous amounts in previous recessions.

The problem is, we're finding it hard enough to find someone to backup Cisse, never mind replace him as well.

If so, who would blame him for that ?

No one, just the method he using to leave is the iffy part.

I'm worried that we are going to have half the season with only Gouffran, Shola and Campbell to choose from upfront.  We seem to be nowhere near signing anyone atm and I can't see this bollocks with Cisse being resolved.

That can't be allowed to happen.

It's basically chapter 3 in the story of how we went down in 2014.

The other worrying thing about this is the knock-on effects it may have on the other players. Cisse seems like quite a happy-go-lucky, friendly guy to me and those who've met him say the same. Generally he plays the game with a smile on his face. I can't imagine him being precluded from a pre-season training and team-building trip with the rest of the entire playing squad is something that they feel too cracking about, particularly considering he's our number one striker.

I wouldn't assume that Cisse has the support of the other players. The other Muslim players aren't raising the same objection, and I would imagine a large part of the squad feel that Cisse is being hypocritical, for the same reasons as several on here.

Well you are assuming same as everyone else if you think they will regard it as hypocrisy. For all those saying Wonga is just like Barclays, I'm sorry it's not. I'll bet no major club would touch Wonga with a shitty stick and it's bad enough we stooped to that level, now it's costing us our better players.

Just a word on this, they're one of the largest global investors in the arms trade. Mind, those who give so much importance to a book that glorifies holy war might not object to that as much as large interest rates.

Stranger things have happened, wouldn't surprise me at all.  We won't pay over the odd's for anyone and we won't sign anyone who doesn't fit the criteria set out by Ashley.  I don't know of many youngish 20 goal a season strikers on the cheap going this summer.

I still haven't got why we don't take a punt for 1M - 2M on a young striker who can fill in when needed to bolster the squad.

No matter how many times I see this argument (and it's a lot) I really don't get it.  Reports are that he has religious and moral objections to it.  I can't see how it's so baffling to people that you might let something slide that has a minor conflict with your religious or moral beliefs, but not something that has a major conflict with it.  That's being quite flexible and accommodating with your beliefs, exactly what people are asking of him.  Oh, a devoutly Jewish player has a problem being sponsored by a porn website?  But they didn't have a problem with begin sponsored by Waitrose who sell pork, HYPOCRITE! HYPOCRITE!  You're Catholic and don't want to be sponsored by an abortion provider?  But you were sponsored by Sainsbury's who sell johnnies, HYPOCRITE! HYPOCRITE!

Players would be in their rights to object to the sponsor with no religious justification at all.

Wonga are scum.

barclays are scum also, he's objecting to only one, why ?

You can't compare Barclays and Wonga - they are two completely different businesses

Wonga are a horrendous company and it was a sad say when they were announced as our club sponsors and I don't care for how much money.  Newcastle was once a proud club MA has turned it into one of his cheap shops.  Cisse is making a stand, forget what the papers say, this is more a morale stand than a religious one.  It's an absolute joke the club have allowed it to get to this point.  Is it too much for the Club and Wonga for that matter to show a little respect and say fair enough as a gesture of good will we'll allow you not to wear the shirt.  Wonga would have had some 'good' publicity out of it and everyone would have been a winner.  As it stands the club is in a mess, more bad publicity and a VITAL player unhappy and potential out of the door.  And for what?

Having had a fair bit of dealing with Barclays both personally and professionally i'd say Barclays are a horrendous company as well yet he's quite happy with them.

But their entire business model doesn't rely on getting people to take out loans they can't pay back, as is the case with payday loans companies which get 50% from their income not from interest, but from fines and charges for missing payments.

I stand corrected, i foolishly assumed that it was black and white. So you can interpret the rule how you see fit and overlook the rules you don't like. Just like every religion really, shoulda known.

Either way, while i admire the mans conviction he can't dictate to the club how it's gonna go. And i can't see Ashley allowing him to. I fully expect Cisse is being offered to clubs in France and Germany right now.

Well now I am more educated on the nuances of Barclays global profit strategy. Maybe someone from the club should send Cisse's advisors a dossier on comparative financial corporations and their suitability for their client. Although realistically I think it would be better to keep it simple.

Barclays charge horrendous amounts for missing payments and going over your limits just like all financial institutions.

It's just a cop out way of engineering a transfer.
