Dokko
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-23424012? Newcastle city councillor Dipu Ahad has previously defended Cisse's stance on Wonga. He said: "I feel absolutely ashamed of what he's done, there's not just me there's been other people who've been supporting him. "But what he's done now, seeing him in the casino, even if he wasn't gambling, I think this gives a wrong message. "People will say, 'look, this is Islam they can pick and choose whatever they want', and Islam isn't about picking and choosing." What an ignorant cunt eh? Islam isn't about picking and choosing. Really? Newcastle online says differently. this guy should read up on his faith.

thomas
Should probably let him know that everyone picks and chooses anyway so, really, it's ok, and ergo, concordantly, there is no such thing as a hypocrite because you can make up whatever rules you want to follow in a religion and say you're of that religion and best of all everyone has to respect it! BlueStar
Personally I prefer the more moderate religious folk who are willing to let minor stuff slide - think that's being pretty flexible and accomodating with your religious beliefs, which is what people are usually in favour of. Aren't they?

I think you'll find he follows a specific brand of Islam where gambling is strictly forbidden as is picking and choosing what parts of Islam to follow. So we have to respect his views and say Cisse is bang out of order.

Guest Spark
So because he's a Muslim he's not allowed to make a stand against something? That's basically what people are saying. Unless Cissé makes a statement saying he is refusing to wear the shirt because it says in the Quran that he's not allowed to, then I fail to see how his gambling is relevant at all. Aren't they? Gambling doesn't seem minor: http://www.islamawareness.net/Gambling/gambling_fatwa001.html I've read plenty of stuff like this over the past few weeks and like i said weeks ago that pic of him in the casino will change everything. Aren't they? So ... who gets to decide what's minor? Why isn't lending as minor as gambling? I haven't been following this that closely tbh, so in the grand tradition of online forums I'd like to offer my uninformed opinion: he's looking for a way out and is using a selective application of his religion - thinking (mostly correctly, I might add) that faith-based-justification is currently a politically and socially unassailable reason for anything - to get it. Newcastle United is currently on a pre-season trip to Portugal, but Cisse pulled out, saying he was not prepared to promote the pay-day loans company, citing his religion, and instead offered to wear an unbranded strip. Tbh, if i didn't know he gambling in the casino's i'd be totally behind him saying no and offering to play in a wongaless shirt, but its just hypocrisy and i can't get past it. alexf
What's clear is we are going to need Cisse badly because there are no signs that those clowns at the club will be able to get anyone in to replace him.

duo
I'd be very interested to see the opinions if another player came out in support of Cisse's stance; I think a lot of this vitriol is just an excuse for people to moan about religion and Muslims in particular. He's entitled to his view on Wonga. If he simply wants to leave then he'd have put in a transfer request before now. very good post Ditto
Numbers
Couldn't give a toss about the whys and the whatfors, the whole thing is another badly handled farce. Another example of the pantomime that is NUFC under Mike Ashley, no fucking way this would have played out like this at any other club.

Dokko
It doesn't matter how major it is, he isn't part of some Islamic cult.
