what has been said is he disagrees with wearing Wonga, conjecture that he wants an improved contract and judged on that?, wtf where did that even come from?

Couple of people on here said it.

proof then  :frantic:

He can fuck off if a new contract does sort it out like

It's all conjecture at this point so I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from what people are conjecturing on here.

some see it as a flimsy excuse so have defaulted to N'zogbia as the last flimsy excuse.

Insomnia didn't want an improved contract.

When it comes down to it if Cisse refuses to wear a Wonga shirt he refuses and that's it, why doesn't matter. The club then has the choice of reaching a compromise i.e. a shirt without Wonga branding or to sell him. They could sue him for being in breach of contract which he almost certainly is, but the religious angle means that is not a viable option. One thing is for sure and that is Cisse is in for a world of pain over this whole Casino thing, not only with the righteous (sic) press but with the Muslim community also.

In the meanwhile I'm going to put a bit of money on us going down, hardly gambling, pretty much nailed on I would have thought.

bet he made a load on the move not to mention wanting out due to seeing the way the club was going, hey why not force your way out without having to put in a transfer request.

It's an avoidable situation which hasn't avoided by the club therefore it's the clubs fault...IMO. Couldn't give a shit about the intricacies of it. Our best striker is missing out on important pre-season for non-footballing reasons, as with nearly everything else to do with NUFC it's fucking embarrassing.

Aye.

The two obvious compromises as I see it are:

1. Allow the player to wear no logo etc, or

2. Sell the player and find a replacement in an appropriate timescale.

Neither has been done. As for Cisse only raising a pittance if we accepted we had to sell him, I'm pretty sure the figure we would have received six weeks ago is roughly comparable to what we'd get now after all this anyway - neither scenario is conducive to getting the best price. The only difference is the club is suffering in the meantime. Funny, that.

Instead and as always we've gone for

3. Indulge in as much brinksmanship and poker-handing as possible to show how strong Ashley and the board are in now kow-towing to anyone but their own demands regardless of the wider consequences aka the team and it's viability at staying up in the PL.

This really seems to be the only move in Ashley's repertoire. Unfortunately it's not one that's good for very many things. This club is in dire need of a little nuance.

Just like most players who move.

did he put in a transfer request ? long time ago and I cant remember for sure.

Why don't you tell us who you think will be an adequate replacement instead of giving us long winded essays of the ins and outs of sharia law? Because really that's all I give a shit about.

Problem with allowing Cisse to wear a non logo shirt is that it sets a precedent - the PFA etc. would use that every time any player had a "problem" with their club's choice of fund raising. The other PL clubs would be furious with NUFC and it wouldn't surprise me if they are being  strongly encouraged to not give in, the range of objections possibly raised by "concerned" players would be horrendous!

He's not made a statement so how do all of you know it's to do with his religion? We had the same shit with KK and remember what came out of his tribunal? An admission by the club that they had led a propaganda campaign against him. Wouldn't surprise me if the club are at it again regarding Cisse. It's what Ashley is all about.

As for the gambling, so what? People draw the line at different places. If he has a moral problem with Wonga, I get it. So do I.

It was a decent, well reasoned post until that last part.

(although i'm pretty sure he will be using his religion as an excuse)

But why? I've been to a casino and that's my personal choice. But by wearing a Wonga loga on his chest, he'd actively be promoting a company to millions around the UK that most people feel uncomfortable about because they target vulnerable people.

Because he follows a faith. His faith is against gambling.  Is he is using his faith as a reason for not wearing the shirt yet gambles in Casinos then he's a hypocrite.

Pretty sure the reason this has dragged on so long is in large part down to the PFA.

This is what Taylor said in the Chron this morning:

“I can only say we are working with both Newcastle United and Papiss Cisse and his adviser to see if we can achieve a satisfactory settlement of this difficult situation which meets with the approval of both parties.

“In looking to do this we are consulting and meeting with experienced people within football used to dealing with equality issues who are also members of the Muslim faith.”
