I think the only single player that Sunderland have bought that has made me think "bastards, wish we'd got him" was Darren Bent. Says it all.

If O'Neill really thinks paying £14million for Fletcher (which is realistically double his true value) is sensible, then he's a bigger crackpot than I first thought.

I think O'Neill does a great job of convincing his chairman to go and pay for who he wants, it's just a shame for him that other clubs think "Haha, it's that fucking Irish tit" and steal as much of his transfer pot as they can for whichever mediocre clogger it is he's after.

"I'd sooner have Fletcher than Dzenko any day"

Dear God these people need help!

The overall lack of footballing knowledge on that forum is staggering. From the same thread:

"Wish people would stop comparing this fee to RVP. Totally different scenario."

You can f*cking say that again!  :D

I actually think he's made an alright point there. Dzeko plays in a team which creates countless chances and he messes up opportunities all the time by being too slow. At least Fletcher has a good attitude and does a lot for the team. Dzeko can be selfish as fuck, slow and very hit-or-miss when it comes to striking the ball. They're both good in the air. I think Fletcher is a better player than he's given credit for (not 14m worth though) while Dzeko is frustrating as sometimes he looks excellent, can show very good technique, but often looks gash

Despite the battles over money with owner Randy Lerner, Martin O'Neill certainly couldn't claim to have been inactive in the transfer market throughout his time at the club.

Yep, given the choice of them both at the same price, I would probably go for Fletcher.

Some times I think Sunderland should create a cheesy chips version of Wonka's chocolate factory to lure potential new signings in. They can give Mong the Wonka outfit too and have him roll around with his little Cattermole oompa loompas.

I would disagree and pick Dzenko every time at the same price. He started last season very well, only when Aguero was up to speed and Mancini started rotating Dzenko more did his form dip.

As I said I don't think Fletcher is that bad but in no way worth more than £7million and that is based on a British Striker premium.

Make Dzeko a focal point of the attack and play him every game and he'd comfortably get more than Fletcher.
