How is it possible to have had such an enormous wage bill, but wind up with a squad of players nobody else would want, and to have to rebuild like we are now?

Wasn't MON linked with your job under FFS?

I can only begin to imagine the carnage that would have unleashed. For starters, you'd probably still be paying Steve Guppy 60k a week, and he'd have 4 years left on his contract.

Yes, yes he was.

And yes, yes we would.

Interesting post there Brummie (the long one obviously). Got to admit I was a bit of a fan of MON's, I thought he did a good job everywhere he went, especially at Leicester. I would have been more than happy if we had appointed him.

Now that he's at the dirty Mackems, I'm paying a little more attention to him, and understand completely where you are coming from the stats for possession and shots on goal support your theory and puts a little doubt against the universal mackem theory right now that we are thick because they've only played 1 home game to our 3 and quite obviously they would have had at least 7 points from those home matches :)

In terms of signings, clearly there's been little change in direction of buy British, with Johnson and Fletcher brought in, although I do like Johnson a lot, think he will be a great signing for them and I am a little jealous of that one. Johnson kind of reminds me of the Ashley Young for MON early on at Villa.

Glad we didn't get him in the end, especially with the mess he left at Villa, you guys are still recovering from that, it could take another year or two.

on the subject of MON, I think Forest won two leagues and two european cups, playing a contain and counter attacking game. But they attacked with real pace IIRC and it was 35 YEARS AGO!!!!!!1

They played some beautiful stuff though with real penetration of the defence

Forest's style of playing there is totally incomparable to the way MON's teams play. Forest would keep the ball and pass you to death, playing little triangles over the pitch.

MON's not a big fan of actual passing.

The wage bill is the big issue, but that should be far more under control come the end of this season. That will, however, be three entire seasons to recover from the shit we were in when he walked away.

Thank fuck Lerner didn't give in and give him what he was demanding to buy Aiden McGeady. Lerner said "how much do you need?", O'Neill said "whatever it takes".

You can't really argue with people when they're like that.
