2.5 years btw, does that mean the rest of this season and two more or will his contract run out in the middle of a season?

No it will be this season and next 2. Our January signings all signed .5 contracts.

Yeah, but that's in January, when .5 actually makes sense. Not sure how 7 games could be classed as half a season

Good point  didn't even think about that!

I would assume it's just a way of saying this season and another 2 although as it's sunderland I can see it finishing in exactly 2.5 year

So this is what others have seen in him...

If Swindon get promoted he may be facing his old club next season. There will be a lot of Swindon players wanting to put one over on him I'm sure after the way he has treated them. How does a player go from being the Captain of a league winning side to not good enough to be picked over two months? Why sign a player and then shut him out so he has to train on his own or with the youth side?

----

From a Swindon fan, no Di Canio did NOT do well here.

Lots of managers get teams promoted from the 4th division - and they don't squander ten million quid in the process, or publicly fall out with every captain and top scorer their club has.

He made us good at beating dodgy Prem/Champ clubs in the cup, but hopeless at winning bread and butter league games.

---

As a Swindon Town fan I feel sorry for Sunderland. This guy will have his agent friend with him making huge sums of money out of fees from the club. He will be flying in packs of Italian ham which the players will have to eat; they will be training 7 days per week & any injured players will be flown to see his mate in Italy for treatment!

All he did was get STFC out of Division 4. Good Luck!!

----

I'm genuinely sorry to say that this is the start of your club's darkest hour. We thought Di Canio was a great idea, but most Swindon fans now are looking back at him as an idiot. We're relieved to be shot of him before he did any more harm.

----

A very brave move if any club employs this guy as a manager.

It has to all be about him & not the team or the club.

Look at how many players he signed at Swindon Town, how many he fell out with & how many we're flops, incredible!!

To cap that, he held the club to ransom for a new contract and then threatened to sue them for breach of contract!

Sunderland fans be very afraid!

----

Always rated O'Neil - shame it didn't work out.

If Sunderland do sign PDC, expect to see a LOT of new faces come and go.

His biggest failing at Swindon (after any bad performances) was to blame the players that HE targeted & signed -denying he was in anyway to blame himself, then demanding funds for new players

:D

Well at least the mackems have tried to do something rather than just meekly let O' Neill take them down. QPR, Reading and Southampton have also reacted to the positions they were in even if it seems likely that for QPR and Reading it probably will make no difference. Pardew deserves to be sacked for leading the club to the position we find ourselves in, but the idiots in charge somehow gave him an Eight year contract and have been hoisted  by their own petard. Nobody is soccer gets a 8 year contract, as the excellent Jenny Owen Youngs sings "What the fuck were they thinking"
