Their nostalgic and treasured memories of football revolve around us not winning the league.

There was another thread on there recently about 'Best Premier League moments' or something.

90% of the posts were about goals conceded by or embarrassing incidents (Dyer and Bowyer punch up for example)  involving NUFC.

I'm not going to be able to watch the derby match, not sure whether this is a blessing in disguise tbh. Fucking hate it for the best part until the final whistle. They could be in the Northern League and I'd still be a bag nerves.

The atmosphere during the 5 - 1 changed noticably during the game from even before kick off with the police being ridiculous while we were walking to the ground, so hyped up that one of them even pushed my dad - who is 73 - to get him to walk faster when he had stopped to talk to one of them.  I think he said something like there must be quite a bit of overtime available on the derby day because he hadn't seen as many police in town for a while.

Then the nerves based around really not wanting to lose through the the elation of coming away as 5 - 1 winners and there being practically no mackems left in the ground.

For the best atmosphere I have experienced in many a year it is impossible to go any further than the 4 - 4 with Arsenal.  I am in the East Stand and even there the people were on their feet cheering and singing....  This doesn't happen - as I am sure other East Standers will verify....

Best moments in my life though - not football related I am afraid.  Mostly revolve around my kids....

the 5-1 was summat else.  Had a can for breakfast about 8am.  5 or so of us on a bus into town and met up with more.  More booze.  Text from a mackem mate being frogmarched up to SJP saying he'd been hit on the head by a rogue lager can thrown by one of our lot.  3-0 up at HT and the Leazes was buzzing.  Never seen so many of our fans so jovial.  Back out and around The Gate was absolutely bouncing with the masses singing in the street.  More pints then a bus home with a greasy parmo.

it was on a totally different level to anything i've felt....you could actually feel it, the roar when we went forward was louder than i've heard before or since including the 5-1...and you could actually see fabregas and the rest of them bottle it.

it wasn't even just when we had scored a couple either....at 4-0 and 4-1 down, the singing in level 7 aimed at the arse fans was still loud....'we're gona win 5-4' in particular

great day to be there, can only imagine what would have happened if Nolans late shot was a yard to the left....

Happiest moment in my ENTIRE LIFE: birth of my first child my wedding day winning the National Lottery jackpot receiving my knighthood for services to the adult film industry when Sunderland dropped points against Stoke in 2010.

trains gunna be a nightmare this year with them charging a fiver

nightmare for police that we arent in the south stand anymore. be interesting to see what they do

Was speaking to a Mackam at work who actually stewards all the away fans for a lot of years... Reckons the view is good in the new area though its proved a bit of a nightmare having Sunderland fans directly below the away area though they are leaving around 5 rows empty for our game... Also said interestingly that the gangways and access points are very narrow compared to the old area and not suitable... Reckons they are opening up the turnstiles 11.30am for our section to get people in earlier... Also mentioned that Liverpool fans are notoriously late for turning up...

can't see many peaple getting the buses when you have to pay,  the trains wil be chocker.  i reckon we will be escorted from st peters as normal with the barriers up and then they will take us round the side of the car park almost along the river to get us round to the other end of the ground.

5-1 was just like a massive fuck off to that lot, after taking the piss for a year when we were down, self proclaiming themselves 'top dogs' etc. Villa 6-0 too. Not for atmosphere or that just like a big fuck off you horrible cunts after the way they went on when we went down.

some of the bitterness on the smb in thier thread for our match last night is ridiculous.

the number of threads, easily a few every day discussing the policing, travel of toon fans to derby, and all other derby stuff leads me to believe the biggest thing that ever happens in thier lives is the visit of Newcastle to Sunderland.

In regards to the 5-1 I remember watching it in bed, much the same as the Villa smacking earlier in the season. Both were completely surreal, couldn't even believe it. When Jonas drew the penalty all my nerves went away, I realized then how huge this was, when Shola attempted that scissor kick I had no doubts it was going in, everything was going our way. Smiled for the rest of the day, what a moment, wish I could've been there.

The 6-0 was mental, i was heading back to Sheffield straight after the game, and in the car i was just like "wait, did that just happen? Andy Carroll hat trick?..." My brain just couldnt compute it!
