Mathieu Debuchy

Debuchy's been caught out here and there but he's just arrived in the league man  To say he's a poor defender is ridiculous (in my opinion obviously) He's already shown some genuine quality.

I have not said that. I say that he has been slow and that it has killed him in the defensive. I´m not saying that he can improve, I have just stated what I have been seeing.

Hey ATB, your football knowledge is outstanding.

So what have you to say in this case?

He got done by Agbonlahor against Villa, who is still one of the quickest players in the league despite his recent injury trouble.

Oscar went past him on one occasion yesterday - the only instance in the game where I can remember Debuchy really looking poor. Still, Oscar had momentum in his favour if we're just purely talking acceleration/speed.

Similarly I could point to the instance where Debuchy drove out from our box at pace to begin the move which ended up with Sissoko's toe-poke at Cech. He looked anything but "slow" on that occasion.

I'm not saying he's Linford Christie, but he's no slouch. Again you're seeing things that aren't there and making God-awful comments besides.

That´s your opinion.

I still think he looks slow in the acceleration face and I think that has been one reason to all his tackles, and that is not just against Agbonlahor.

Give him a chance man ATB, hes still getting used to the pace of the English .

Give him time, I've got absolute confidence in him. Once he's adjusted fully we're going to have quite a right back.

Caught out a few times but show me a defender who isn't in their first few games in this league.

Still delighted that he's a NUFC player now, will only go from strength to strength.

As I said. I´m not slagging him off yet. I just think that he has looked slow, and to be honest not as good as I though. But that doesn´t mean that he won´t be a world beater here.

Man, if your against the opinion you really get slaughtered here, not much room for a discussion

He's quicker than he has shown a couple of moments, i think it's more about being quick in the mind so far. That will come with time, he'll learn to position himself quickly enough to have a better starting position. He got past Ashley Cole during the euros in the summer, is Cole slow? And we've seen moments in his game where he has shown that he's quicker than these couple of moments people chose to base their opinion on. Silly.

What's up with the Debuchy bashing?!

I honestly don't know what some people are watching.

Did they think the guy was going to never make any mistakes or what?

This guy got thrown into a defence playing poorly, and a team playing poorly, starting and playing the majority of games from day one.

Think all being said and done he's been brilliant! See Evra's first months at Man U. Now he was terrible!

Same will happen with MYM, 'What he doesn't completely stop us conceding? Fuck sake! Should have stuck with Williamson!'.

Manchester United fans questioned Evra and Vidic when they first arrived...................

Obviously I know he´s a good RB either wise he wouldn´t, for example, play in the euros. But are you not allowed to questioning someone? Evra and Vidic came good, but I´m sure a lot of player even has been labeled a great player after a few games and then just disappeared. It´s up to them/him to prove us wrong.

If you're always talking bollocks you'll get slaughtered, people with reasonable points and good arguments disagree all the time. There's a big difference there.

Truth, as always, lies somewhere in the middle. He's not particularly quick, but he's certainly not "slow". He hasn't defended particularly well at times, but he's not a bad defender.

There's definitely merit to the argument that he should only get better in time, too. His start could probably be filed in the "solid, if unspectacular" folder for me at least.

What is this

I said I though he have looked slow and now all this? Even if he would be the fastest footballer in the league come May, he could still come of a slow start. Thats possible. And show me where I have said that he should be replaced

There's analysing a performance but then there's having the understanding that players take time to adapt to a new league. The Evra/Vidic example simply reinforces that. Prove you wrong? Do you go to matches/watch on tv hoping that players will confirm your doubts? I certainly don't.

He's a good player and has performed absolutely fine since arriving. Can't see the issue.

This. He's been naive a few times so far (particularly the Agbonlahor pen and a few rash attempts at tackles in the box yesterday) but once he settles into the frenetic pace I have no doubts he'll be a fine player for us. He's fantastic going forward and his touch and passing are a massive upgrade on Simpson.

Absolutely brilliant last night, his game gives us so much compared to what we're used to. We don't play with wingers, but the La Bomba Lads we have in our fullback positions gives us width and they were quality last night, as were the rest of them.

I injured my back a week ago, and not even a wheelchair could take the grin off my face that i have now. Im gonna enjoy it.  (im not in a wheel chair btw)

Well after 4 games trying to get used to the Premiership i think we should sell him.

His sloth like reactions are embarrassing tbh.

I think you have completely misunderstood me here. The "prove me wrong" was about players like Evra that has been poor with high expectations. I would say that Obertan was the same case. Poor with attributes but I still had some hope for him to improve. He was a case of "prove me wrong" but he never did. I don´t mean Debuchy should prove me wrong.

Regarding Debuchy btw, I only said that he has looked slow, and hasen´t played as good as I have hoped (didn´t said that first though), but that doesn´t mean I´m saying he has been poor. He has have a solid start and I think this game against Chelsea was his best so far.
