I suppose the more plausible explanation is that he hasn't been playing regularly for a long time and needs some match practice to get it going. Of course, it doesn't help that he's playing for the shittest team in the universe under a manager who turns everything he touches into dog poo. Some crazy people still think he's worth buying. They point out his positives like "he has a good touch" and ignore or blame Pardew for his non-goal scoring qualities.
