He got it monumentally wrong today. Needs to sort it out asap if we're going to rescue ourselves from a relegation scrap.

Relegation scrap? Give over man.

Otter this has been coming since last year though. The concerns that were being screamed for most of last season are the ones that are the problem at the moment.

I cannot believe anyone thinks this hasn't been coming. Last season was great in terms of results but nobody can tell me we were a really good side or that we didn't churn out some very rotten performances. Functional and clinical is about it.

Spot on, this seasons performances are mirroring last seasons without the lucky results.

Totally agree.

Also I believe the poor window has sent the wrong signal to our top players who I believe WANT  to play better football and must have wanted to push on a bit this year. The formations are too negative and as a team we don't create much, hoping for  moments of brilliance from individuals....These have run out for now.

Spurs (H)- Terrible performance. If it wasn't for Demba's brilliance we wouldn't have won, Spurs let us off the hook completely.

Villa (H)- Another lethargic performance. If it wasn't for Hatem's brilliance we wouldn't have got anything. Bereft of ideas.

Everton (A)-  A very lucky draw, we clung on as Everton squandered chances and the linesman saved us. Demba bailing Pardew out, again.

Norwich (H)- Not convincing. We let Norwich come back into the game and decided to hang on to the win. Again, lucky.

Reading (A)- Disjointed. One of the poorest teams in the league gave us the run around. Demba saving us with a great strike.

mackems (A)- The only game where we've put in a performance. We were brilliant, organised and looked confident. Obviously being down to 10 men for 60mins was tough but we were so unlucky not to win.

West Brom (H)- The luckiest win we'll ever get. West Brom we're weak in the first half, bar Lukaku. We could have finished them off but instead fell to pieces. Pure luck.

Liverpool (A)- Decent performance, however we decided to try and see out the win with a half to go instead of attacking a weak Liverpool side.

That's all the games this season in the league where we've come away with points. It's a miracle we got points from half of those games. It gets worse every week.

It's not the same tactics as last year though. The tactic of Ba on the left and Cisse up top hasn't been tried once this year!

The manager is as cowardly with his players as with his tactics if he won't play Ba there.

if you think thats the answer to our problems then you've mistaken.  Ba did not play there for the majority of our season,  we got most of our points last season from 4-4-2.

....playing badly. We were terrific in the 4-3-3 and we won games.

Probably going to loose alot of players come the end of the season. At least we will buy youth and buy well. 8 years of rebuilding and scrapping.

Yep there were plenty of people voicing these concerns last season whereas others were just happy to be picking up the points. If you don't address these issues then this is what happens.

Yep. The old thread's gone now but even last season there were plenty of people who were uneasy about some aspects of our style but they got shouted down because the results were good. HTT for example was ridiculed but you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out that the best football teams simply don't play this way. It's great for a limited fat cunt like Allardyce punching above his (considerable) weight, but for a team that has real ambition you need genuine quality football, not championship clogger shit.

Absolutely dominated in the centre yet again, this is basic stuff here and Pards has even mentioned it in interviews. Anita and Cabaye are good players in their own right but are NOT 2 man midfielders. The centre today provided little protection, little imagination, no attacking penetration and didn't even pick up second balls. It's an absolute shambles, Diame ran us ragged for 70 minutes and they happily passed it around us too, meaning our 2 men were chasing shadows, we're simply not physical enough for it.

This has been our biggest problem all year and a massive reason as to why we've been so poor, it makes us so predictable.

It has rather baffling for all the Pardew patter about studying Mourinho and being forward thinking as a manager, he still relies on a rather antiquated 442.

The only way 442 works these days is if you have a Carroll esque striker who can provide a bit of strength and hold the ball up. The only player we have remotely like that is, sigh, Shola.

Are there any sides at the top end of European football still playing a rigid 4-4-2 towards two goalscorers the way we do?

Can't think of any.

A lot of the time Man Utd play a diamond 4-4-2- which is fluid and flexible, although 4-2-3-1 is a common line up from Ferguson too.
