Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Spurs all regularly play 2 games a week and their match preparation is still consistent. Probably because they have a style of play they've all been trained to play in the first place and concern themselves more with asserting their superiority on teams and not countering the strengths of other teams.

Aye, the obvious difference in quality and quantity between their squads and ours has nothing to do with it..

Odd that was overlooked..

The point that we're far too focussed on stopping other teams as opposed to going out and playing our own game still stands though..

It's a related point though - it's far easier to impose your style on an opponent when you have far more/better players than they do.

This 'we didn't use Europe as an excuse for bad results in the past' isn't entirely true either. Bobby did. Granted shepherd wouldn't move the games back 24 hours in order to get the sky £ (we had expected champs league) but the excuse was trotted out regularly all the same.

Bobby wasn't moaning about Europe, he was moaning about playing wolves on the Saturday morning, less then 48 hours after playing Basle on the Thursday.

Bobby wanted the game played on Sunday, not Saturday lunch time.

Edit, we drew with Wolves on Saturday lunch time 1-1, after playing on Thursday.

It's an excuse. They still have the same amount of time as us to prepare for each match. Having a better squad doesn't magically gift them more time to prepare.

It is an excuse, but a valid one IMO. There's a reason the teams playing in Europe regularly have far bigger squads.

Bit of a vicious circle for teams like us though - you need the money from Europe to afford more/better players, and you need those players to do well in Europe - increase your squad size and cost to compete well in Europe then don't qualify and you're fucked.

I don't disagree that the squad isn't equipped to handle as many games. However I also find Pardew has shown his limitations this season as a manager.

That was one example, yeah, there were plenty others, hence shepherd piped up.

The wolves result also brought many moans and groans iirc, was a poor result at time.

Finally made every right decision there was to be made. Hopefully we don't see Jonas running into the team anytime soon. With Ben Arfa and Cabaye and Tiote this team can only get much better. Very good performance.

Rightback and central defender needs to be bought fastly though even if Danny and Willo weren't bad today.
