Debutant Loic Remy believes the St. James' Park crowd were crucial to Newcastle United's 1-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

The Magpies left it late but Hatem Ben Arfa broke the deadlock with four minutes remaining to record a well-deserved three points from an afternoon of dominance on Tyneside.

Following a frustrating first half, United upped the tempo after the break and the 74th-minute introduction of Remy from the substitutes' bench freshened their attacking options, with Ben Arfa netting soon after.

But Remy believes the 46,000 Newcastle supporters inside the stadium should take as much credit for the goal as the team.

"It was really important that we went out there and got a win," he told nufc.co.uk after the final whistle.

"The first two matches of the season were quite difficult for us and we knew we really had to hit the ground running today, get the three points and get our season off and running.

"In the second half we really went at it with a lot of pace and managed to score a goal, so I think it was important to win for the rest of the season ahead.

"When I was on the bench the atmosphere was fantastic and you could hear the supporters really going for it.

"Then when I came on I really had the impression that they were the 12th man here, encouraging us and forcing us to get the goal. It was thanks to them that we managed to do it.

"The fans here are really important, that is clear to me already. They were behind us for 90 minutes and all the way until the end."

Remy's appearance was his first since agreeing a season-long loan deal from Queens Park Rangers earlier this month.

It was brief glimpse of the French international forward's quality and he was just delighted to finally be out there, representing his new team.

"It was really good, a great feeling," said Remy.

"I managed to get a few minutes at the end of the match. I've been waiting quite a long time to get our there at St. James' Park and really see what it's like.

"It was a great feeling and even better to get the victory as well."

What Kinnear said for those who missed it.

“But if he scores goals and does well for us, Alan will be happy with our end of the deal; the player will be happy because he will come into contention for a World Cup place with France; and if both those things happen, Remy will go back to QPR as a World Cup player with a higher value than when he joined them, so everyone will come out of it well.”

Hopefully it ties in with his record of senile ramblings.

Tbf Kinnear has a knack of talking absolute bollocks, Douglas said we do as have many others.

Its not often i don't believe something coming from the club but considering Kinnear's history i suspect he might be talking out of his arse once agan.

Remy's first touch was to push the ball behind the defender and run at them. That first moment told the defenders that they had to worry about the threat behind them and that started to open open up the game. The defenders had to start covering the space behind them, stand off the ball carrier a bit more and that meant that they couldn't press forward as much.

The age old difference in making them play our game not their game

I'd sign him based on that cameo alone

The second he's found innocent (if he is), we should be agreeing a fee with QPR.

According to the best director of football in history he's only here to raise his price tag for QPR.

I'm pretending I live in a world where we do sensible things and JFK doesn't exist.

The only thing giving me any interest in the club ATM.
