Aston Villa vs Newcastle - 29/01/13 @ 7:45pm - Not on TV

4-2-3-1 seems to be the formation.  Seems to be he had planned on playing Jonas with Sissoko in midfield but then moved Jonas on wing when Marv got injured. Don't get why he persists with Jonas in midfield.  Can't wait for Tiote to be back.

Thing is, saying we can't afford to put new players in, or that we can't afford to be without 'tacklers' suggests that we've not been losing almost every week this season.

True we need a complete change of philosophy, change the mind set, retain the ball for longer periods means you loosen the need for tacklers, still need people that can win the ball back from time to time, but fully confident, Sissoko, Cabs and Anita have all got that in their game as well as the ability to hang onto it.

Good side apart from Jonas, Taylor & Perch.

Taylor's a good defender and Perch is the best only DM we have with Tiote away.

f*** off, where do you think Anita played for Ajax?

Hint:  it's not the dynamic all action midfielder Pardew has tried to turn him into

Anita's not a DM.

Is Anita injured? There must be some logical reason you'd play a bog standard full back in midfield instead of an international midfielder?

has to be his mentality looking towards safety as opposed to any form of 'lets get at them'...... i suppose no away wins must be in his mind .. probabily will see how it goes then Anita as the option second half

Andy Brassell on Twitter seems to think Sissoko will be in the centre of the 3 behind Cisse, with Gouffran out right and Cabaye alongside Perch as the more attacking of the holding pair.

Well yeah, that's what the official site says as well.

Actually, he's our most experienced one.

Maybe not going by 1980's definition but in this day and age I think he just about qualifies.

I thought Anita was a DM?

He is, just not in the traditional sense. Still a better passer and more positionally aware than Perch. But he can't deliver that overrated bone-crunching tackle, so he takes the bench.
