Peppe
If we got the best manager in the world (whoever that is), would that change anything though? Eh, yes, of course it would. How? Would they be OK with challenging for Europe all of a sudden? We finished 5th with Alan f***ing Pardew in charge. I know that. I'm not saying it wouldn't be possible, but the board don't want us to challenge for cups or be in Europe (because that would mean we would get relegated ). Why would that change? If getting a really good manager just meant we'd finish 10th instead of 15th it wouldn't really matter. The board's ambition is one thing, but you asked if a great manager would make a difference, and the answer is yes, of course. Will they appoint a great manager? Of course not. Your last statement suggests that you actually do think a good manager would make a difference so I don't really understand what you're getting at. Last season we finished 10th. Using your own calculations, with a really good manager we could have been competing for a place in Europe. Well I was kind of including the boards ambition into the "make a difference" part since it greatly effects what a great manager can achieve, but maybe I should have been more clear about what I was actually asking. I also don't think they will appoint a great manager unfortunately. I do think a great manager would make us better, but with "make a difference" I meant being able to get us where we should be (challenging for Europe in my opinion) despite the unwillingness from the board. I'm not that bothered with who they appoint because I don't think anything will change as long as Ashley is here. And whoever they appoint won't get us challenging for Europe because we don't want to ,

The former Chelsea and Leeds star is a still a managerial novice despite leading Burton to promotion as League Two champions after just seven months in charge. But the 43-year-old former Dutch international has impressed Newcastle's managing director Lee Charnley. After their relegation escape under John Carver, Charnley has been left in charge of deciding who will manage Newcastle next season by owner Mike Ashley.
