Spurs managers since Keegan arrived:

Ossie Ardiles

Gerry Francis

Christian Gross

George Graham

Glenn Hoddle

Jacques Santini

Martin Jol

Juande Ramos

Harry Redknapp

How many of them have gone onto bigger and better things? None.

By your logic, TCD, the Spurs job should be touched only with a very long bargepole within football, and completely avoided by those with any merit whatsoever.

Do you think that's the case?

Let me repeat myself. BEFORE MARTIN JOL, TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS WERE A LAUGHING STOCK. Martin Jol was no big name, had very little to lose coming from a smaller foreign club.  They've started to look a proper club when they gave Jol 3 years to improve the side and Harry 4.

Anyone would think you're conveniently ignoring Ramos. A bad appointment that they corrected.

Didn't take them to sack Ramos but ok, so it's all about how long a team give a manager? Right. Chelsea? Villa?

Do you have comprehension problems? I'm not saying Allardyce as the reason we got relegated. It just wouldn't have happened if he was boss. So, people will look at that and call it a mistake.

Look at Blackburn. They could've hired a better manager than Kean. But everyone talks about how they wouldn't have been in that position if they stuck with Allardyce. So sacking him looks a bad decision now. Do you understand?

I worked in the midlands when Allardyce was here and people couldn't believe how bad we were under him and nobody blamed the club, they blamed him.

Did Dalglish get sacked at Celtic and Liverpool because of us?  Did Souness who was sacked at virtually every club he’d been at and not get another job because we sacked him?  Did Roeder get sacked at Norwich because of us?  Did Ruud Gullit fail to hold on to a job before and after us because of us?

You mention Allardyce and Hughton dropping down a league, what did that have to do with us?  If anything it would appear that the top clubs agreed with us.  What former managers do at another club and that has nothing to do with us.

Point is: we are known for being an impatient football club with high demands. Rightly or wrongly that is the perception. That negative perception adversely affects our appeal to manager's who have a lot of stock right now.

We aren't big enough for a Rafa and too risky for someone with high stock such as Martinez or Laudrup for the reasons listed above.

So I propose we go for a lesser known option. From the lower leagues or Europe. A 2007 Jol or 2009 Martinez.

We were known for hiring the wrong manager from what I could see.

How did Ramos end up with the job at the "joke" Spurs btw, given his massively high stock at the time?

Finished 5th back to back. If we did the same people wouldn't say we over-achieved last year.

So actually it's got absolutely fuck all to do with how long you keep a manager, or what they do afterwards, but now it's how high the team finishes?

You're spinning round like a top, man. It's not even that your point is bollocks - you haven't even got a point.

Chelsea will have had as many managers as we've had since Keegan left.   Liverpool sacked a manager who won them the CL.

Comparing ourselves to Chelsea? I'm going to bed.

Rafa wasn't fired.

You're talking about us being known for letting managers go, Chelsea do the same but it doesn't fit your point of view so you'll ignore it.

Benitez was sacked at Liverpool, no matter how it is dressed up.

You didn't consider Spurs a joke before Jol?

I've worked in Manchester, Kent and London for a number of years. Most people believe what is written in the media. Even we realise we need to stick with a manager because chopping and changing has not brought us success.

We kept Keegan for around 6 years, Robson for around 5 years.

Check this out, understand the point and I'm trying to make and hopefully after that go away:

http://www.leaguemanagers.com/managers/longest-current.html

We've had the most managers in the PL era. Haven't won a single trophy either.

The other two closest have also been considered jokers and clowns. Luckily for them one are dirty rich and the other just had a manager for 5 seasons and have appointed a man for the long-term.

Team A - Are a joke but have billiona that will ensure that they are competitve.

Team B - Success built on managers who were the longest serving for 13 years and 24 years. No longer a joke.

""It was never my intention to belittle Newcastle fans.

"I want to clear up any misunderstanding that may have arisen over what I said. I have nothing but the highest regard for Newcastle fans and I always have had.

"They are up there with the best supporters in the game.

"Their passion, commitment and fervour have never wavered, even though they have had little to celebrate.

"They have turned up in numbers to get behind their team wherever and whenever the games have been played. When I take a team to St James' Park, I have stressed to the players that not only have they got to beat the opposition on the field, just as important is coping with the atmosphere created by the fans.

"Sadly, results have not matched their loyalty. If Newcastle's achievements had matched the support of the people who pay to watch them play, the club would be among the game's giants. It's tragic that they haven't been able to win a league title for over eighty years".

That's the opinion of the best manager in the history of English football.  Any manager that doesn't want that challenge due to bullshit reasons that have been mentioned in this thread is a manager I don't want at the club.  Our potential is huge and the only managers who have done a good job here have realised that.

Fuck off with media bullshit. We moan when we are underachieving in the league and cups and getting beat by the likes of Reading and Sheff.Utd at home, yes. But not when we're failing to win trophies or finish in the top 4, etc.

And so what if Martinez turned down Liverpool? It's not as if it's a direct competition between us and them to get him. I'm sure he's sensible enough to realise that he can't go-on turning down the likes of Liverpool and Aston Villa all the time.  Clearly at the time he thought it wasn't the right time for him to move-on and therefore him turning down those clubs won't play a part in any potential decision for him to come here.

Fancy swallowing stereotypical media soundbites . The media doesn't really care for us, we don't hail from London or the North West and we once ,many moons ago, had the cheek,as they would call it, or the ambition, as we would, to have a concerted effort of winning the Premiership.

They didn't want it to happen then, because the great Manchester United comeback was perfect for them.

They still don't like us....they revelled in our relegation and they would do so again, they've slagged even the good sackings we've made ie Gullit, Souness and called us delusional Geordies for wanting success, every time one has been dismissed.

Why, I believe there is even a thread on here about said subject.

IP

This 'perception' is in the media and I doubt that any manager that matters, pays attention to what a journalist writes about us in the papers.

People inside the football world know about our potential, the stature of this club and the passion of the fanbase - and they would be foolish to dismiss such a challenge without thought.

I've said time and time again, the only thing Newcastle United fans 'demand' is a coach/team that gives 100% where it matters - on the pitch. Not a lot to ask for is it?

Secret Footballer ‏@TSF 49m

Mancini definitely gone from City and rumours that Benitez to be next manager of Newcastle. All disclaimers apply-don't shoot the messenger!

seems unlikely, but like others above i'd say this would be great - cant think of a LIKELY appointment which would beat this
