Happy Face
If we shot from the halfway line every time we had the ball we'd clock up loads of shots. It wouldn't be effective and I wouldn't want to watch it. If? Another imaginary counter argument. Let's keep it real http://i41.tinypic.com/2ptvziu.jpg So outside of the top 7 only West Ham, Swansea and Southampton have had more efforts within the box. An no, I'm not arguing that West Ham play pretty, attacking, cohesive, intricate football. Any more than I am us.
STM
You shouldn't read everything from stats but they can be useful. I'd be looking at our basic stats, like our wins away from home or goals conceded, those can't be twisted. I agree with Wullie though. You can tell how a team has been playing without using stats. Again, could be from the corner of the box. Trust your eyes, padawan - not that stats

Cronky
I think one thing that stats do show and which is backed up by intuition is that we play a lot of long balls. We don't have the confidence or the ability to play the ball through the midfield often enough. For me, the balance in the midfield isn't right. We seem to field too many defensive CMs, and our more skilful players like Cabaye and Ben Arfa tend to prefer to collect the ball deep and feed other players in rather than get forward on to the end of passes themselves. Sissoko seems to be the best bet from the point of view of an attacking midfielder, but I'm not sure if he's best played further forward nearer the striker. That needs addressing. Happy Face
How can sides take shots that don't result in integers, like? Couldn't find the numbers. Based it on Total shots * % shots inside the box. Edit: And most Ameobi shot's only count as half a shot.

I think Sissoko needs to play deeper, drop him right in the middle more advanced than Tiote but deeper than Cabaye. Let him play the proper box to box role and Cabaye can sit behind our front 3 and create.
Davey_C_73
How can sides take shots that don't result in integers, like? Very good point.......maybe they count sliced shots that go out for a throw-in as 0.1?

Incognito
The biggest critique aside from his negative and cowardly tactics is that we rarely play as a unit. We either defend or attack, it is either one or the other. We never have a balance of both. Of course if we attack more, we get left short at the back and vice versa. It's not a point exclusive to me, others gave pointed it out, so why hasn't the manager rectified it, or even made it evident he knows about it ? It was a negative unit, but it was an remarkably rigid system for at least the first half of the season which proved very effective. Do you give Pardew any leeway on not being able to get back to any sort of consistency on that front due to injuries?
ChezGiven
I take two things away from reading this thread. Firstly, not creating chances is not the exact problem with Pardew's football. Not creating enough for the quality of the striker we have or not creating enough quality chances may be a better criticism but i'm not convinced thats it either. You cant ignore the facts. Secondly, the people who feel strongly about this have a simple option to express themselves on Sunday. Start a Pardew out chant. Thats the first place to start. You could all use the time on here thinking up a funny one that is easy to sing, bit of dark humour always gets people laughing and joining in. If a significant number sing it then the message gets over. Remember that one lad on MOTD standing behind Allardyce and shouting abuse, i'm sure he had an influence on events. This will only work when we are losing of course so if Sunday goes well, get plans in place for next season. Anyone having a go at HF needs to have a word too, i thought he was objective, reasonable and responsive to questions. Very fair minded and a highly intelligent bloke too. As I said, I don't believe he has the tools or the nous to make us an attractive side to watch, but also one that wins games in a regular basis. Having said that, reluctantly, I will back him if he is still Newcastle United manager next season, and it is apparent he has learned from this awful season .
