Mackem mate of mine on FB (a good lad)

"Well i'm not there John so can't really critiscise. Terrible weather, early kick off, lots of games recently..."

Those first two are awful reasons. Sure it's the earliest game, but how does a 12.45 KO prevent people from coming? Not like it affects league games at that time.

I'm not there, and I won't be at Wembley. Purely financial reasons

I don't get it, Sunderland became the first north east club to hire a modern coach, and they're becoming a good team, but the fans don't care about the FA Cup? What exactly do they want? They should be feeling enthusiastic about everything.

They appear to be excusing themselves on an individual basis over at the special needs class. It's like a teacher receiving a bunch of sick notes from under-achieving fatties trying to get out of gym....

Add to that it's a lunch time kick off on the telly and in the pissing rain. They should be included in season tickets.

If we get to the Final ill get a ticket due to the number of loyalty points I have. Today I'm sat at home with my sick children watching on a stream...

I am full of flu and feel terrible but in all honesty I would have probably still braved the elements if it wasn't on the TV.

Looking after the bairns while the wife visited her father in hospital.

By many estimates, we took almost as many fans to Tottenham in the fifth round in 1987 (when we were in the bottom three of the top flight and odds-on to lose) as Wembley-bound SAFC mustered at home at the same stage today...

:anguish:

Right, it's time to put this attendance debate to bed forever (wishful thinking).

Newcastle have always had higher average attendances than Sunderland. I accept that and I wish other Sunderland fans would too. Here's the stats ;-

As for our attendances for the cup games this season, I really have no idea why they are so low, but I agree it looks terrible when we're on TV.

I find it absolutely baffling tbf, you're getting so many for the league games which (aside from the odd Pardew-related aberration) have been pretty miserable on the whole. Yet when the cup games come around, where you've had a lot of excitement, some good results and in the FA cup at least knew in advance there was a good chance of seeing a win and going through to the next round, nobody seems to fancy it. Sad sign of the times I suppose where we are told the Premier League is the bestest competition ever, ever, ever to the detriment of the cups and fans seem to be buying into this way of thinking.
